Not only that, but the Magpies lost both home and away to bitter rivals Sunderland, increasing the pressure on the 48-year-old, who could opt to leave, according to a report by talkSPORT.
Indeed, despite Howe still retaining the support of the board, he may decide to move on, if he feels he cannot continue with the club, and Benfica boss Jose Mourinho is open to taking him on.
Mourinho, who has won two Champions League titles and three Premier League titles, has his admirers at the club, but the former Chelsea boss is not the only serial winner interested.
Newcastle could also consider a move for Al-Sadd manager Roberto Mancini, who could be discussed in Italy, if they choose to sack Howe.
Like Mourinho, Mancini has enjoyed much success throughout his career, lifting 15 trophies, including the 2011-12 Premier League title with Manchester City.

As well as impressing at club level, the 61-year-old has excelled in international management, described as “unbelievable” by footballer David Cotterill after leading Italy to Euro 2021 glory against England.
The Italian, who prefers to use a 4-2-3-1 formation, has the experience to replace Howe at Newcastle, but has not managed a top club since his spell with Inter Milan ended in 2016, which may be a slight concern.
Howe blames Newcastle’s defeat against Crystal Palace
In the recent trip to Selhurst Park, Newcastle fans were hoping that their team would find an answer, after losing the derby, but they failed again, with Crystal Palace emerging as 2-1 winners.

Newcastle United could make a big call on Eddie Howe’s future in the coming weeks.
Howe took responsibility for the Magpies’ 14th Premier League defeat of the season, saying: “I feel there is anger and frustration. I am not blind to anything.”
“I always have to look at myself first. I always say that. I’m number one accountable.”
However, with the PIF now scouting replacements, the Newcastle boss will have to start turning things around sooner rather than later, and he is set to renew his acquaintance with former club AFC Bournemouth on Saturday.
