Kane hails a ‘special night’ after Bayern beat Real Madrid in a thriller

Kane was on the scoresheet again as Bayern Munich booked their place in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Harry Kane and Bayern Munich produced another impressive performance to finish off Real Madrid and book their place in the Champions League semi-finals on Wednesday night, winning their match 4-3 on the night and 6-4 on aggregate.

Holding a narrow lead in the first leg in Spain, Vincent Kompany’s side were relentless in their pursuit of goals in Munich, leading to their first win over Madrid since 2012.

The tie looked to be in Madrid’s favor in the closing stages, but a late red card by Eduardo Camavinga gave the hosts enough momentum to get over the line.

Bayern scored the last goals in Munich

Luis Diaz broke the deadlock late on, finishing after Madrid’s red card with minutes left on the clock.

Moments later, Michael Olise put the result beyond doubt with a fine stoppage-time strike, capping a poor spell that turned the tie on its head.

Kane reacts to incredible Champions League night

Harry Kane described the encounter as one of the strongest matches of his career.

“It’s a special night. I mean, it’s a crazy game, to be honest,” Kane said.

“Being a quarter-final, a big game like it was, having the ebbs and flows and the ups and downs in the first half, especially, was very different.”

The England captain has been at the forefront of Bayern’s European campaign and will now look to carry that momentum into the semi-finals as he looks to continue the best season of his career.

The closing times were not without controversy. Camavinga was sent off near the end of the game after receiving a second yellow card for refusing to return the ball to Bayern with a free-kick, a decision that angered the Madrid players.

The stars of Los Blancos dressed as the referee at full time, furious, and expressed their frustration after the game.

“I think so, obviously [that the red card decided the game],” Arbeloa told Movistar. I think the referee didn’t know this either [Camavinga] he already had a yellow card.”

Bayern are preparing for PSG’s semi-final test

For Bayern, attention now turns to the heavyweight semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain.

Kane admitted how much of a challenge it was to face last year’s winners, but remains hopeful that his side will go well this year.

“One of the best in Europe for sure, reigning European champions for a reason,” he said.

“Obviously we had a tough game against them at the beginning of the Champions League stage. We will expect an open game, a lot of man-to-man pressure, a high level of individuality. I hope we can come out on top.”
