Coco Gauff defends her singles titles at the second tennis grand slam of the calendar year at the French Open 2026.
Men’s champion Carlos Alcaraz will not be able to win a third straight title due to a wrist injury that will also prevent the world number one from playing at Wimbledon in June and July.
That means Jannik Sinner is a strong favorite to beat the Spaniard, having lost in the final to Alcaraz in five sets last year.

Who will win the French Open 2026? Roland Garros competitors
Reigning Wimbledon champion Sinner is the top seed and started the tournament with a 29-match winning streak.
“Maybe he is in the form of his life and, without Carlos being here, it also increases his chances of winning more Grand Slam titles,” Djokovic accepted.
“[Alcarez] is the two-time defending champion. It is very sad that this competition is not with him, but that does not change my performance.
“My main concern is my body. If I am fit for the whole tournament, I have a very good chance, as I showed in Australia. [losing the final to Alcaraz].
“We have talked a lot in an admirable way [Sinner] it is everywhere. People are probably asking, because of his style of play, whether he will dominate the clay like on a hard court, for example.
“But he has proven that it is, which is really surprising. He has a lot of time ahead of him.”
Sabalenka and Swiatek are the favorites in the women’s singles, while Rybakina and Gauff are also expected to challenge.
“I’m very happy to be back,” Sabalenka said, explaining how she overcame physical anxiety and worked on her mental game.
“Of course I feel much better, I struggled at the beginning of the clay court season, but now I feel 100%.

“We’re focused on recovery and making sure I’m recovering everywhere and ready to go.
“My emotions were ruining my game and my quality was going down a lot when I started overreacting to everything.
“My opponents will see that and they will step in and play better, so it was to make sure my opponent doesn’t see what’s going on in my head and, at the same time, do better and stay in the zone.
“That has been a huge improvement over the years in my career and helped me a lot to move up.”
