David Ornstein reveals agent’s talks with British coach in “pole mode”
David Ornstein has shared an update on Manchester United’s managerial search, revealing the latest on Michael Carrick, Luis Enrique and Andoni Iraola.
Ornstein shares update on Man Utd’s manager search
The Red Devils have a big decision to make at the end of the season as they look to replace Ruben Amorim, although that will be easier said than done.
Several names have been put into the framework of this work, too. Both Iraola and Oliver Glasner have confirmed their impending departures from Bournemouth and Crystal Palace, sparking speculation that they could be shortlisted for Old Trafford.
Fabrizio Romano also revealed this week that Iraola in particular is “sure” he is open to a move to United.
Meanwhile, reports also claimed that Man United are interested in Enrique, as his future at Paris Saint-Germain continues to steal the headlines. As things stand, the Spaniard’s contract in France will expire in 2027. However, Ornstein believes he will stay in Paris.
It’s an early mistake for Man United, who would have Enrique as their leading man in an ideal world.
The PSG manager, who is currently the European champion, is as close as anyone will get to Pep Guardiola, but it looks like he could be on his way to Old Trafford any time soon.
Carrick at the “pole position” of Man Utd’s career
Speaking in a question and answer session with The Athletic, Ornstein confirmed that Carrick is “in a good position” to land the Man United job this summer, despite recent results.
“I don’t see United picking the likes of Andoni Iraola, Oliver Glasner or Marco Silva ahead of Carrick – although if they miss out on the Champions League, I think they’ll all play. That’s why we’ll have to be patient.
“I hear that United have done all their background work and have no doubt spoken to representatives, although I have been told that there are no interviews with candidates; if they were, we would have heard whispers at the very least.
“As things stand, it might sound like Carrick is in good shape.”

Better than Nagelsmann: Man Utd looking to hire “best manager in Europe”
In the hunt for their next manager, INEOS has turned its focus to European champions Manchester United.
It’s a huge boost for Carrick, who started off as interim manager before some believe recent results have ended his chances of stepping into the role permanently.
Alas, that doesn’t seem to be the case yet. His 4-2-3-1 formation has put the entertainment first and certainly won many fans at Old Trafford and, even after Monday’s defeat against Leeds United, it is worth noting that he has won seven of his 11 games in charge.
