Why Spurs should sign the unstoppable £43m winger to replace Savinho

Tottenham Hotspur are racing towards the Premier League season like a prized racehorse, galloping over every obstacle and clearing themselves by a country mile.
This has been the start of the window for Spurs. In the case of Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke, Roberto De Zerbi successfully strengthened the defense.
However, in what sounds like a reshuffle of the playing squad, he has put in an £85m move for Mateus Fernandes and is in danger of a club record £100m move for Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali.
Don’t forget the gatekeeper’s door. Just before those eye-catching deals were completed in the middle of the park, Martin Dubravka arrived to play second fiddle to Antonin Kinsky.
What’s next in De Zerbi’s rebuild at Tottenham?
The next priority for Spurs is to sign a bunch of new attacking players. Defense was a big problem last term, sure, but they also had problems creating and scoring goals.
So, they brought in Savinho from Manchester City to add more quality to the side. Last year, the Lilywhites tried to sign the Brazilian but to no avail.
Spurs made several bids for City but did not let him go. However, a year has passed and their hopes of signing him are looking bright.
This is because the whole season he had not kicked the ball after the arrival of Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo. Tottenham are now in talks to land him in a move worth £60m.

However, he is not the only winner on the team’s radar. Miguel Delaney of the Independent reports that Rafael Leao has now become a managerial option at Spurs.
It is worth noting that the Londoners are already in unofficial talks with AC Milan about the idea of signing the Portuguese this summer.
Leao has made it clear that he will leave the San Siro and as Football FanCast has discussed this window, he could move on for as little as £43m.
How does Rafael Leao compare to Savinho
Last year, signing Savinho made a lot of sense. He enjoyed a fine season with Pep Guardiola, scoring just three goals but providing 13 assists in all competitions.
The Brazilian has been one of the most talented young players in Europe until 2024/25, compiling as many important passes per game (1.6) as Bernardo Silva in the Premier League and falling short of top scorer Kevin De Bruyne who managed 2.1 per game.
However, last season this midfielder was not at his level, after that he had a problem with missing minutes, mainly because of Cherki and Semenyo but also because of his form.
In 2025/26, he managed just four goals and three assists in all competitions, while starting just seven games in the league.
Still only 22 years old, there is a good chance he can take it out on Savinho but the more proven Leao would undoubtedly be a better signing than De Zerbi.
Hailed as “one of the best left wingers in the world” by Como scout Ben Mattinson, the 27-year-old has proven to be a quality winger over the past few years. The truth of the matter is that his end product is very similar to Savinho’s.

In all the last five seasons, Leao has scored two goals. For that reason, he is a more talented player than Savinho. However, the Portuguese star is also a strong creator. In 2025/26, that was the first campaign in five years that the striker did not register double figures in the assists department.
One of the biggest strengths of any Man City midfielder is his ability to drive and handle the ball. He ranks among the top 1% of young players in Europe’s top five leagues for continuous steps per 90 minutes, as well as the top 1% for passing balls and the top 5% for dribbling success.
Leao doesn’t quite match that but he still has an electric talent that can leave defenders reeling. Star of Milan ranks among the top 4% for ongoing actions and the top 2% for ongoing carriers.
Care is considered continuous if the ball is moved towards a player’s goal at least 10 yards from its starting point or into the penalty area.
Not to mention that he is growing up with her now. All in all for £43m, considering Spurs are already done spending this summer, this one feels ridiculous.
