The Gunners fell in the title decider

In a high-octane encounter that felt like the definitive chapter of the 2025/26 season, Arsenal fell 2-1 to Manchester City at the Etihad.

Despite a strong defensive display and late surge, the Gunners were unable to overcome Erling Haaland’s second-half winner.

While defeat is a bitter pill to swallow, Mikel Arteta’s men have shown why they have led the pack for so long.

Arsenal vs Man City player ratings

David Raya – 8 Raya was in inspired form, producing two saves from Rodri and Haaland in the first half.

He couldn’t do anything about the goals but controlled his area smartly under a lot of aerial pressure.

Cristian Mosquera – 6 You are given the unenviable task of tracking down Jeremy Doku. The Spaniard showed flashes of brilliance but was caught out by Doku’s pace at times.

William Saliba – 7.5 Saliba had a great game against Manchester City’s attack, winning many of his headers and being named on the ball even when City were pressing hard.

Gabriel Magalhães – 7 Cherki got the better of him as he scored the opening goal, but Gabriel was his usual self, making several key blocks.

He seemed frustrated with the winner, caught in a wrestling match with Haaland as football was being played.

Piero Hincapie – 6.5 January’s signing changed to the left. He provided good balance and provided an outlet going forward, although he had his hands full directly with Antoine Semenyo.

Martin Zubimendi – 7 Zubimendi’s ability to find space in a crowded midfield was crucial to Arsenal’s turnaround.

He blocked the defenders well on many occasions, although he failed to hold on to that as City did.

Declan Rice – 7.5 Powerhouse performance. Rice covers incredible ground, often dropping between the centre-backs to provide extra cover. His drive late in the game almost set up Odegaard’s equaliser.

Martin Odegaard – 7 The captain was the creator of Arsenal’s best whistles. His vision remains unmatched, although he will be disappointed not to test Donnarumma more with a late free-kick.

Noni Madueke – 6.5 It’s bright and straightforward in the first half. However, his influence faded in the second half as Arsenal found themselves pushed back, which led to him being replaced at the end.

Eberechi Eze – 7 Eze’s close control allowed Arsenal to beat City’s press on numerous occasions. He contributed to Havertz’s rating and looks like a player who can create something out of nowhere.

Kai Havertz – 7.5 He pressured Donnarumma into making a mistake and equalizing for Arsenal. He worked hard as a player, although he didn’t work to hurt City after the hosts took the lead again.

Arsenal leave the Etihad with their heads held high but their lead at the top is down to just three points.

With City still in hand, the margin of error has officially disappeared.
