The club are ready to make a record green-light bid to sell the Celtic target that everyone would be “crazy” to sign

Celtic have been slow this summer but are slowly making progress in their first entry into the summer.

Reports say that Camilo Duran is already on his way to complete a medical before sealing his move to Qarabag and that could just open the floodgates.

Alongside the striker, the Bhoys have also received a major boost in their pursuit of Kieron Bowie, who may be on his way back to Scotland just months after leaving Hibernian for Verona in January.

Honesty

It looks like Bowie’s Italian tour could end this summer if Celtic get their way. The deal won’t come cheap, however, with Verona ready to make a €15 million (£13m) bid for the green.

Finance

That £13m price tag would make the Scotland striker the most expensive signing in Celtic history ahead of Arne Engels. Whether the Bhoys consider Bowie worthy of that record is a big question.

Understanding

The striker’s time in Italy has been a mixed bag, with four goals in 14 Serie A appearances, but no one can deny his quality in the Scottish Premiership. This is where he scored eight goals last season and six earlier this campaign.

Impact

Bowie’s move may allow Daizen Maeda to leave. The Japanese player has publicly expressed his desire to have a better challenge at the World Cup and his exit will be inevitable if another striker arrives.

Bowie won’t come cheap. That’s a long way off, but if Celtic are going to make a statement they’ll have to cash in at some point this summer.

Greenlight record bid for Bowie’s Verona

According to Corriere di Verona in Italy, as reported by Sporting Witness, Verona are ready to go all out with Bowie’s green light if a €15m (£13m) deal comes through this summer.

Although Celtic are keen on the striker, which would be their transfer record, they are not the only club interested. According to those reports in Italy, Bowie is someone “everybody is going crazy” about, which could spark a frenzy for Verona’s star player.

Celtic should avoid making history with Bowie

At a time when Celtic are not the biggest spenders in the Scottish Premiership, they should not be looking to spend big on Bowie. Although the striker knows how to score in Scotland, his record was not a first. And for the record price, that’s not enough.

Last season showed that Celtic needed to fix their business. The title race was too close for comfort and signing a clinical goalscorer is one way to open the gap on their rivals again.

For £13m, the Bhoys would be better off targeting a name like Motherwell’s Tawanda Maswanhise this summer.
