Something is going on between Connor Hellebuyck and the Winnipeg Jets
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman joined Sirius XM NHL Network Radio Morning Skate with Gord Stellick and Scott Laughlin and was asked about Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck and whether a trade or something is in the works.

Gord Stellick: “Okay, trade talk, everybody likes trade talk. It’s lovely. I don’t care what the language was decades ago. Today, so it seems that this Carolina committee review has been done that, maybe a lot of teams can do it, but there are some stud players.
And interesting, out of the blue, somehow, is Connor Hellebuyck. And I know you talked about it a lot on your podcast, what do you have, where there’s smoke, there’s fire, or where there’s smoke, what’s available? How is your bowel?”
Elliotte Friedman: “I think there’s steam. I think there’s something going on. And Gordie, your time in the front office, that if this kind of stuff comes out, it can be even more difficult for people. We have two trade requests that have been made public, Dylan Larkin and Darnell Nurse, and you know people are frustrated by that.
And I think it made some people go underground and made it hard to confirm, and something is really going on with Hellebuyck. But I have been warned that there is a different kind to it, and if I don’t know something 100%, I don’t like to guess. So there is something there, but I don’t know exactly what it is.”

Host: “So, Connor Hellebuyck, you mentioned it there. I’m curious about this. Is this something a little different? And I just, I don’t know how much we hear about it, or my first thought when I heard about Connor Hellebuyck was another American player who was playing in Canada who wants to come out.”
Dave Pagnotta: “No, this is more. If it was, I mean, and I know it’s a tie in, especially with everything that happened after the Olympics. Dylan Larkin wanted to go primarily and play with some of his potential Team USA teammates and things like that.
I think this is more. And Hellebuyck said it at the end of the season, he threw a little warning to the club, he wants to win, and he heard about USA, and he realized after the season that the Jets had that there was a setback.
Kevin Cheveldayoff, their GM, should; they have no second line, they have 1/3 of the second line with Cole Perfetti. They need to fill those holes, and I think the warning shot was filling these holes or you’re going to have something else on your hands next summer. And I think that’s where things are, and I think that’s where some groups are starting to walk around saying, okay, well, maybe we can get through this now, is this possible?

This goes back to last month, about a month ago, early May, you started hearing some teams starting to float around and at that time, the Jets were saying, “No, this is not something we want to explore right now. But that discussion has, it seems like it’s continued, and then there’s the official trade request report, and you know those kinds of things.
Again, I’m categorizing it more as a warning than an actual request, but it’s obviously something teams are trying to figure out if they can do the job. “
