Who plays in the middle of the park remains an unanswered question. The latest rumors claim that Man United are yet to give up their pursuit of Elliot Anderson, despite Manchester City moving forward, and the same can be said for another Premier League star.
According to Caught Offside, Man United are now “ready” to submit a blockbuster bid to sign Sandro Tonali this summer. The Italian is valued at £100m by Newcastle United, but the Red Devils are willing to put around £80m on the table – thus creating a £20m gap in the calculation.
It could be a match between two chats waiting for the other to blink first. Newcastle have already sold one star man this summer in the form of Anthony Gordon thanks to Barcelona’s £69m bid and will be keen to sell another big name at the right price.
Carrick is a fan of Tonali and it looks like INEOS will be testing the waters. Whether that results in a full-blown search for a midfielder remains to be seen.
“Good” Tonali would be better than Ederson
It won’t take long for Ederson’s time in the limelight to come to an end if Tonali is set to follow. The Italian would blow the Atalanta star out of the water and could be INEOS’ best signing yet.
In terms of changes in midfield, Tonali’s arrival will be a serious sign of intent for those at Old Trafford, especially considering the price set by Newcastle.

Compared to Ederson, Tonali is an undeniable player. Both inside and out, the Newcastle man is used to handling midfield battles which is why the Magpies have set such a big asking price.
Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has been one of many to praise the 26-year-old in recent years, describing him as “very good”, and a move to Old Trafford will only enhance that praise from English football.
