First Two Pot Ratings, 4/27 – 5/3

What is RazzBall?!
Welcome back to another week of Two-Start Pitchers. This particular week I’m excited to see some of the other young arms on the roster, like Chase Burns, Trey Yesavage, Parker Messick, and Bubba Chandler.
Chase Burns – Uses a 4-seam combination and a slider while spraying in a switchup vs LHH. He does a good job limiting damage with a low hard hit percentage and barrel, and he will have a big season if he continues to do so.
Trey Yesavage – Welcome back, Trey! It’s just great to have him and be able to put him on our list again. Using his 4-seam, slider, and split-finger fastball, he may take a few outs to get back to form, but he’ll be solid for those of us who wrote him down.
Parker Messick – I would say that he was one of the steals of the 2026 fantasy baseball games, or the waiver wire, as there were articles that he had to add as recently as April 10. Keeping batters off balance with a 6-pitch mix of 4-seam, changeup, slider, curve, sinker, and cutter (wow), he continued to improve the success of 2025.
Bubba Chandler -The fastball speed is there, but so is the walk. Bubba uses a five-pitch combination of 4-seam, switchup, slider, sweeper, and curve; However, speed is the only red category in his Savant. The control issues are trending in the right direction, and if it continues, he could be in for a big summer.
Now for this week’s rankings…
Start Your Studies-
Fried Max: @TEX, vs BAL – TEX struggled against the lefties for a good start to the week for this week’s SP1 doubleheader.
Dylan Cease: vs BOS, @MIN – He hasn’t been awarded a W to back up what he does, but Cease is lights out.
Chase Burns: vs COL, @PIT – Lots of strikes here and I’m predicting a quality comeback starting.
Good for Others–
Jesus Luzardo: vs SF, @MIA – Banking on the bounce back from Luzardo starting this week. The control issues are real and that’s my only concern.
Joe Ryan: vs SEA, vs TOR
Luis Castillo: @MIN, vs KC – Good matchup here for the pitcher people are worried about. Despite Houston’s start Castillo has been great.
Clay Holmes: vs WSH, @LAA
Trey Yesavage: vs BOS, @MIN – Trey is back, but I’ll lower expectations. He didn’t look sharp in his conditioning assignments.
Braxton Ashcraft: vs STL, vs CIN – This is the latest: Ashcraft is off on bereavement leave and won’t start on Monday. Until it is official, I can only rely on his debut against CIN.
Chris Bubic: @ATH, @SEA
Casey Mize: @ATL, vs TEX – We should take Mize out with confidence this week. He played well sneakily to start the season.
Parker Messick: vs TB, @ATH – Look for him to top this division if he shines this week.
Bubba Chandler: vs STL, vs CIN
(Two) Start at Your Own Risk– (High Risk / High Reward)
Randy Vasquez: vs CHC, vs CHW – A good comparison here that may reward you early.
Steven Matz: @CLE, vs SF
Matthew Boyd: @SD, vs ARI
Merrill Kelly: @MIL, @CHC
Shane Baz: vs HOU, @NYY – Touch matchups for someone who throws BP in games.
Zack Littell: @NYM, vs MIL –
Dustin May: @PIT, vs LAD – I’ll start @PIT
Guard Suarez: @TOR, vs HOU
Jack Leiter: vs NYY, @DET
Tyler Mahle: @PHI, @TB
don’t start- Not much here to start, but maybe just one measurement.
Connor Prielipp: vs SEA, vs TOR
Anthony Kay: vs LAA, @SD
Chad Patrick: vs ARI, @WSH
Kyle Leahy: @PIT, vs LAD
Ryan Weiss: @BAL, @BOS
Jack Kochanowicz: @CHW, vs NYM – I saw the start against CHW.
Tomoyuki Sugano: @CIN, vs ATL – Sugano @GABP is something I want no part of.
