Fabrizio Romano shares ‘very important’ Elliot Anderson to Man City update from Nottingham Forest

Fabrizio Romano shared Elliot Anderson’s update on Man City’s move to Nottingham Forest this morning.

Forests have enough on their plate right now.

A relegation battle, a Europa League semi-final against Aston Villa on the horizon, and tonight’s trip to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland.

Vitor Pereira’s side have come a long way in a short time, but the job is far from done.

Forest sit five points clear of the relegation zone with five games to go, having moved from 17th place back into the bottom three with an unbeaten run in their last five Premier League games.

That turnaround includes four wins and two draws from their last six games in all competitions, capped by a 4-1 home win over Burnley last weekend – a result that provided the City Ground with one of its most exciting afternoons of the campaign.

A win tonight and Premier League survival is sealed.

Tricky Trees will welcome someone again.

However, while the City Ground is focused on the pitch, the ongoing buzz about one of their best players is growing stronger by the day.

Anderson has been one of the most sought-after midfielders in English football since the turn of the year, and it’s not hard to see why.

He joined Forest from Newcastle United for £35 million in the summer of 2024 and has developed into one of the most complete midfielders in the country, attracting interest from City and Man United in the process.

He is also expected to be a key player for England in the World Cup this summer.

Fabrizio Romano shares ‘important’ Elliot Anderson in Man City update

Sky Sports reported this week that City are close to signing Anderson, and sources believe he will move to the Etihad, helped by the good relationship between the two clubs.

That assessment was backed up this morning by Romano, who confirmed that City are preparing to make what he described as a “very significant financial offer” for the player – to maintain the top-flight status he first unveiled in March.

Romano added that Man United will remain “careful and determined” if City’s pursuit is unsuccessful, but noted that nothing has progressed in direct talks with Forest.

That last detail is very important.

Owner Evangelos Marinakis has previously shown how he works in these situations.

David Ornstein of The Athletic reported that Marinakis would like a British record fee for Anderson – surpassing Alexander Isak’s £125m move from Newcastle to Liverpool last summer.

Marinakis was also strong for Morgan Gibbs-White when Tottenham tried to unlock the exit clause last summer, and there is reason to believe he will use the same system here.

City are willing to pay a big fee – but whether they are willing to pay that much, especially while managing the uncertainty over Rodri’s future and a move through their midfield, remains an important question.

For Anderson, the most important thing is tonight’s game.
