Danny Mills says the England star will start ahead of Harry Kane in the World Cup

Harry Kane scored twice against Croatia to equal Gary Lineker as the all-time World Cup goalscorer.

Thomas Tuchel’s side finally found their feet against a strong Croatia side, who pressed high and were certainly full of intent in the first half.

It even looked at one stage as if they were going to take a point following the first half’s entertainment, Jude Bellingham shut that down before the rest of the fans returned to their seats for the start of the second half.

If there was anyone who doubted the standards Tuchel and his staff hold for this current England team, assistant manager Anthony Barry’s scathing words at half-time should have provided a resounding answer.

With the cameras rolling, he presented a brutal test, and whatever was said in the dressing room worked wonders.

Despite a convincing attack of the tournament so far, it was not enough to convince Danny Mills that Kane would be ready to start with the England legend.

Mills is backing Rooney to replace Kane in the current England squad

Talking to Football fansIn an interview with betTOM, Mills said Wayne Rooney would be better than Kane in this current England team.

The former Leeds and England man was asked which player from the ‘Golden Generation’ would fit into the current side, and believes the Manchester United legend will “score hat-tricks to cheer him on” for Tuchel’s side.

“Wayne Rooney joins me in this current team – before Harry Kane. Wayne had everything when he was alive. I dread to think how many goals Wayne would have scored in this generation when no one could touch him; he would have scored hat-tricks for fun.”

It would certainly be a battle to remember between Kane and Rooney. The former has already overtaken the Man United legend to become England’s top goalscorer by some distance and could go one better by becoming a World Cup-winning captain this summer.

But there’s no denying that if Tuchel’s side are blessed with Rooney at the peak of his powers, then they could have a complete assault on the competition.
