Captain Jarrod Bowen says West Ham are “in a good place as a team” before the Premier League’s third-bottom side see off sixth-bottom Leeds United to book a place in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley Stadium.
The new version of Wembley was only months away from opening when the Hammers finally progressed to the last eight, losing the 2005/06 final to Liverpool on penalties.
“We can really turn what has been a difficult season into a really special one in the last seven league games and the three FA Cup games we still have to play,” said Bowen, referring to West Ham’s schedule with his side a point behind Tottenham, three shy of Nottingham Forest and four away to Leeds in the top flight.
“It’s the right time for business, there’s nothing more slack between now and the end of the season. It’s good to be back and we’ve been working hard the last few days at Rush Green to get ready to go.
“A trip to Wembley for everyone associated with this club would be amazing. This is the FA Cup, the competition we all grow up watching and dreaming of winning, and winning will take us to the national stage, so it’s a big opportunity, a big moment and I’m looking forward to it.
“Leeds will bring a lot of fans, so it will be a good plan for a good game. Now we have to go and do it.”
The visitors reached the quarter-finals for the first time since 2002/03, last reaching the semi-finals with an extra-time defeat against Coventry City at Hillsborough in 1986/87.
“We know we all have the opportunity to write more history for this club,” said head coach Daniel Farke, who took Leeds to Wembley when they lost the 2024 Championship Play-off final to Southampton.
“Participating in the semi-finals would be another history for this team because we have not been there for such a long time.
“This team is united and united and very determined to achieve something special. We are very happy to have entered the quarter-finals.
“The boys did really well and we want to grab the opportunity with both hands. We know that West Ham will try to do the same and they must not go on the first match day after the international break, [which makes it] it became even more difficult [for us].
“We want to be strong and it would be a great success if we can improve.”
