LIV Golf UK turns to JCB – Golf News

LIV Golf Action returns to UK shores this week when the 11th tournament of the league’s 14 tournament schedule kicks off at JCB Golf & Country Club in Staffordshire from July 23-26.

The league has visited England for the fifth time, having played its first tournament at the Centurion Club in 2022 and again in 2023, before moving to the JCB in 2023.

Last year’s LIV Golf UK event attracted more than 43,000 spectators over the course of the three-day tournament, and with this year’s event being extended to 72 holes over four days, attendance is set to grow even further for LIV Golf’s final international event of the season before returning to the US for three tournaments.

HOME STARS ON SHOW

Fresh from competing in The Open Championship, English fans can look forward to seeing a host of superstars among the 57-man field, including Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton, while former Ryder Cup champions Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter and Paul Casey will also be taking part on home soil.

Hatton has the best LIV Golf result of any English player on home soil, second only to his Legion XIII captain Jon Rahm at the JCB in 2024.

“Playing home events is always fun,” Hatton said. “The home fans in general, even when things aren’t going well, they’re always supportive. When you’re having a good time, you get excited – and that can put an extra spring in your step.”

The All-English Majestics are hoping to find support at home to turn around a disappointing 2026 campaign. They enter JCB in last place on the team list for the entire season but they would like to give their fans something to enjoy.

“I’m looking forward to returning to the JCB,” said Majestics Co-Captain Ian Poulter. “It’s become our home event and the fans always come out in force. We have amazing fans, an amazing launch. We have a bar. It’s a special week.”

Fans can also watch the league’s roster of international stars take on JCB’s challenging courses, including last year’s LIV Golf UK JCB champion Joaquin Niemann and 2022 Open champion Cam Smith, as well as 2017 Masters champion Sergio Garcia.

In addition to the golf action, Saturday night will see Chase & Status take over the JCB Golf & Country Club with a special DJ set, bringing their drum and bass sound and undeniable energy to Staffordshire.

CURRICULUM CHANGES

Designed by Robin Hiseman of European Golf Design, the JCB championship course opened for play in 2018 and is open to employees and guests of tractor manufacturer JCB only. The course’s 7,332-yard course covers a variety of terrain, including open farmland, beautiful parks, woods and beautiful lakes.

The course has undergone several significant changes since last year, with the 6th hole, which was the most difficult hole in the last two years for LIV Golf UK when playing in a category 4, now becoming a category 5, the whole course is now a 72. The back 6 was moved back a bit and extended, the hole being extended to 509 yards. Other changes include new back tees on holes 5, 7, 10 and 14, with the par-4 7th now playing 24 yards longer at 494 yards, and the shorter 14th now playing 144 yards.
