With the August 3 trade deadline quickly approaching, we’re bound to see minor leaguers awash in trade rumors. If you want to know about players who may find themselves in new organizations in a few weeks, The Board is a great resource, as are the league’s new leaderboards, the subject of today’s Feature Focus.
The basics
- Our minor league statistics go back to 2006, with batted-ball data going back to 2007.
- You can combine multiple seasons, or split the leaderboards into seasons for different players by checking the box next to Split Seasons.
- The Level, League, Minor League Team, and Dropdown MLB Org allows multiple filters across drop-downs (eg, selecting Triple-A and then Pacific Coast League), but not multiple filters within each drop-down. Leaderboards don’t currently allow you to select multiple MLB leagues, for example.
- Statistical Filters can be stacked, however. Here’s the leaderboard sorted by 150 wRC+ or more and 15 or more steals, sorted by most steals:
You’ll notice that in the screenshot above, wRC+ isn’t displayed in the resulting leaderboard because it’s not in the General tab. Unlike the player pages or our major league leaderboards, the minor league leaderboards do not have a Dashboard tab, so the default stats are different. This can be solved using the Custom Report button, which I used to add wRC+. I also limited my view to only professional players:
Members can add columns to their heart’s content, while Non-Members are limited to a total of 10 columns in their custom reports.
What’s new
The current minor league leaderboards didn’t get an overhaul from the old version (which will remain live through the World Series), but there were two nice additions.

The first is custom date ranges, available only to Members. If a custom date range is selected, the player’s age will reflect the age range, as shown in this minor league leaderboard for at-bats as of July 1, 2023:
The filters section includes a MaxAge option, which works the same as the age filter for a single season, but filters for the player’s oldest season displayed in the range.
Non-Members are limited to Quick Grade options for the past seven, 14, or 30 days, as well as Early Season and End of Season options.
We’ve also included our new Heat Maps feature, which I detailed a few weeks ago.
As with all new and updated features at FanGraphs, we don’t consider minor league leaderboards a fully-fledged project just because we’ve made a few additions. At the top of the new leaderboards, you’ll see a link to submit any feedback you have.
