Confirmed teams for the Europa League

Forest could reach their first European semi-final for 42 years.

Nottingham Forest will aim to reach their first European semi-final since 1984 when they host Porto in the Europa League quarter-finals.

Forest scored a great goal from Martim Fernandes in the first leg as they drew 1-1 at the Estadio do Dragao.

Having already beaten Porto at home in the league this season, the hosts have reason to be confident they can win and play in a final tie with Midlands rivals Aston Villa or Bologna.

Nottingham Forest v Porto stats

  • In their great European history, Porto have played 24 away games in England and have never won (D3 L21). Their only ‘away’ win against an English team was against Chelsea in April 2021 in the Champions League quarter-final second leg, which was played in Seville due to Covid-19 restrictions.
  • Forest have lost three home games in the Europa League this season and no team in England has ever lost four home games in a major European season.
  • Porto have failed to win five Europa League games against English opponents (D2 L3), having faced teams from a different nation in the competition several times without success.
  • This will be the first major European quarter-final at home since the 5-1 defeat by Bayern Munich in the UEFA Cup in 1995-96. They have lost the last of their last three home games in Europe’s top competition including that game, the most defeats in all of their previous 21 games combined (W14 D4).
  • Porto have won only the second leg of the last four of the last 22 legs of the two major European eliminations (D6 L12), albeit one against Stuttgart in the last 16 of this season’s Europa League.
  • Forest’s Igor Jesus has netted seven goals in the Europa League this season; only one Brazilian has scored more in a single season in the competition, Zenit St Petersburg’s Giuliano in 2016-17 (8).
  • After scoring in the first leg, William Gomes became Porto’s top scorer in the Europa League this season with four goals. The last Brazilian player to score five or more goals for a team in a major European campaign was Galeno in the Champions League in 2023-24 (5), and the last to score more goals in the Europa League/UEFA Cup was Derlei in 2002-03 (12).
