Arsenal seem to have found a new Bukayo Saka

So, there we have it. Arsenal are Premier League champions after 22 years of trying. On a sunny night at Selhurst Park, the Gunners lifted the trophy in front of their adoring fans.

It was a magical time. Bukayo Saka was beaming from ear to ear, Declan Rice couldn’t stop grinning. Gabriel couldn’t stop dancing and swinging with Wiliam Saliba. Mikel Arteta? Well, he couldn’t stop hugging his family.

Everywhere you looked there were magical moments. Max Dowman, the boy who did his GCSEs became the Premier League’s youngest ever winner.

Gabriel Jesus took home his fifth Premier League winners’ medal. However, for most of this team, it was the first big cup in their life. Not a bad thing to get the monkey off your back, eh?

In six days, they will be in the Champions League again but for now, let’s enjoy what is arguably Arsenal’s best season in over two decades.

How Arsenal wrapped up the title at Crystal Palace

This stage of the Premier League is full of pressure. It was also full of surprising moments. Who can forget Gabriel’s late header at St James’ Park? What about Eberechi Eze’s North London derby hat-trick? Leandro Trossard’s last win against West Ham a few weeks ago wasn’t bad either.

All those times meant that Arsenal could come home to Crystal Palace and blow away. Arteta went into full transfer mode in a bid to protect his players ahead of next weekend’s Champions League final and with Palace retaining their own European showpiece, the game had classic end-of-season vibes.

Arsenal’s FFC player ratings

Kepa Arrizabalaga – 6/10

Martin Zubimendi – 7/10

Cristhian Mosquera – 7/10

Piero Hincapie – 7/10

Riccardo Calafiori – 6/10

Christian Norgaard – 6/10

Myles Lewis-Skelly – 7/10

Noni Madueke – 8/10

Gabriel Martinelli – 7/10

Max Dowman – 7/10

Gabriel Jesus – 8/10

Gabriel Jesus was given a rare start, possibly his last in Arsenal colors before he leaves in the summer and could have had a hat-trick.

The Brazilian hit the post early on, only to see one saved by Dean Henderson before breaking the deadlock. He got in behind, ran towards Gabriel Martinelli’s goal and beat the goalkeeper from his near post.

Arsenal burst into a frenzy, eventually scoring a second after the break. The pack’s corner was turned into danger by substitute Kai Havertz where Noni Madueke was waiting to fire home. It was his third league goal of the season but it was well taken.

The Gunners were given a late scare when Jean-Philippe Mateta found the net late on and Yeremi Pino found the equalizer in injury time. However, with the celebrations ready and waiting, Arteta’s men held on for the last time.

As Manchester City lost to Aston Villa in Pep Guardiola’s last game, it meant the Londoners finished seven points clear at the top. No one can say they don’t deserve it.

The likes of Saka and Gabriel have been slaving away for years without reward, but for them it feels like just the beginning. The same can be said for a certain Dowman.

Arsenal’s new signing Saka makes history against Crystal Palace

Everywhere you look this season, Dowman has made history.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a 15-year-old boy was seen at Tape, a London night club celebrating with the whole group. A few days later he missed training because of his GSCE exams.

However, on Sunday afternoon, at the age of 15 and 144 he became the youngest player to start a game in Premier League history.

A few hours later, he held the crown aloft in front of foreign supporters. In the process, he became the youngest player to win the England title since it was re-established in 1992.

Dowman’s trophy and medal haul is not just a token, however. He played a big role this season. That goal against Everton back in March is impossible to forget.

In talks to become the youngest goalscorer in the division’s history, he raced past the Toffees defense before slotting the ball into an empty net. It was a pivotal moment in the title race and arguably pushed the team to the highest point this season.

His performance at Palace on the last weekend of the season was not so good but he was still looking at home to the club that won the title at the age of 15. The impact of the youth has been very positive.

Dowman has played on the right for most of his career so far but it is in the middle, as a no.10, that he excelled this weekend. The performance was good, as it usually is, with the youngster playing a key role in the first goal.

The ball was played at his feet but he played a good pass that turned into the path of Martinelli who then freed Jesus. It was a magical moment, a moment we’ve become accustomed to seeing from the Hale End wonderkid all season.

At the end of the game Dowman was snatched with Saka and his teammate Hale Enders raising the trophy. It was a powerful good sign. At the beginning of Arteta’s reign, it was another academy graduate who rescued him; Saka.

Now, in the form of another wonderkid of the left foot and the world at his feet in Dowman, Arteta and Arsenal have another star of the future, someone who looks ready to win more Premier League titles, someone who will be at the forefront of the second phase of his project; to create a monarchy.

Like Saka, he has no ego, this is a boy who loves to play football. Opposing players struggle with him and are often left trailing behind him. Expect him to play a major role in any future success Arsenal continue to have.
