‘Angry’ Kylian Mbappe shoves his opponent as ‘special’ Paraguay ‘gets under the skin’ of France in the last 16 match

France international Kylian Mbappe pushed Andres Cubas to start the big clash as Paraguay held on to ensure their last 16 clash against the tournament favorites goes to the quarter-finals in Philadelphia.

Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Cubas took Mbappe down for six near the Paraguayan penalty area, prompting the Real Madrid striker to poke him in the chest before several players from both sides clashed.

“It’s an obvious mistake by Cubas,” former England defender Stephen Warnock told BBC Sport. “I don’t know how it’s not a yellow card, actually.

“They are under [France’s] skin. That’s exactly what they want. They want that reaction. They want revenge. It means that France is frustrated.”

France vs Paraguay: Mbappe is ‘upset’ at the World Cup

Paraguay took four points from their group before edging out Germany on penalties but were huge underdogs against a Bleus side who have scored 13 goals in their opening four wins.

Cubas, who was seen joking with Mbappe shortly afterwards, wasn’t the only Paraguayan player to take offense to the 27-year-old, who started the game one goal behind top scorer Lionel Messi.

“It’s not like Kylian Mbappe to be frustrated, but it’s the wrong way,” Warnock said, calling Paraguay’s defensive decision “unique” and adding that head coach Gustavo Alfaro “can only dream” and is “hopeful” about his team’s first-half display.

“It slows down the game. It frustrates the French. Mbappe would not let the referee be the only one to say about it.”

“That will make Paraguay happy, because it knows that France is offended by the measures.”
