Now 27, Mbappe scored in Les Bleus’ 4-2 win over Croatia in 2018 and scored a hat-trick against Argentina in the 2022 final, although Didier Deschamps’ side lost on penalties.
The captain failed to score in three internationals just before the 2026 finals, netting eight goals in seven appearances for France.

Is Mbappe playing in the 2026 World Cup? Injury updates
The second half of Mbappe’s season has been hampered by injury, sitting out the Clasico against Barcelona in May in one of two games he missed after suffering a hamstring injury.
Some Madrid fans took a different view when Paris Saint-Germain’s top scorer went on holiday in May rather than continue his injury rehabilitation in the Spanish capital, with calls for Mbappe to be sold.
He missed seven games in all competitions with a knee problem but completed 90 minutes for France for the first time since November in their 3-1 friendly win over Northern Ireland in their final friendly before the World Cup on June 8.
His surprise second goal gave France a 3-1 win over Senegal and Mbappe then scored another double in a 3-0 win over Iraq on matchday 2.
The 27-year-old scored twice as France finished the group stage in style by beating Norway 4-1 to win their group stage and scored two more in the last 32 win over Sweden.

France are among the favorites to win the World Cup and have a talented squad with many of the best players from across Europe, led by their talented captain and centre-forward.
Paris Saint-Germain top scorer Mbappe is the leader in Group D of the UEFA World Cup qualifiers, which also includes Ukraine, Iceland – the same team that stopped France from winning, as the hosts held it to a draw – and Azerbaijan.
His teammate Ousmane Dembele won the 2025 Ballon d’Or after playing an inspirational role in PSG’s Champions League victory alongside fellow internationals Lucas Hernandez, Warren Zaire-Emery, Bradley Barcola and Desire Doue.
A 1998 World Cup and EURO 2000 winner with France as a midfielder, manager Deschamps will step down after 14 years in the finals, guiding his country to the 2018 World Cup, the 2021 Nations League title and the EURO 2016 final.
