Rangers agreed personal terms to seal Rohl’s first summer signing

Whichever way you cut it, Glasgow Rangers have conceded the most goals this season, with the backline enduring turmoil throughout the campaign.

The Gers actually conceded just twice as many as the champions, although their tally of 43 goals conceded was nine more than Hearts, who wilted especially in the difficult stages of the season.

Indeed, the last seven Premiership games have resulted in Danny Rohl’s side conceding at least twice in one of these games, perhaps unsurprisingly the Gers have been left out of the title race.

There will, at the very least, be major changes to the defensive ranks this summer, with James Tavernier’s most notable departure, while the likes of Max Aarons, Jayden Meghoma, Derek Cornelius and Nasser Djiga will all return to their parent clubs.

In Djiga’s case, there has been talk of a permanent stay, although that could be ruled out by a rival pursuit of the centre-back.

The Rangers have verbally agreed to terms for the top defender

John Souttar is likely to be the only centre-back this summer, with both Cornelius and Djiga likely to leave, and Emmanuel Fernandez the subject of much interest in the Premier League.

It was once suggested that Rangers and Rohl were looking to keep Djiga on board permanently, although that talk has since died down, following the end of his loan spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

A poor display in the most recent trip to Parkhead could prove the final nail in the 23-year-old’s hopes of an extension, as could the signing of a suitable replacement.

A reshuffle is needed at Rangers, especially in the forward line.

As revealed by TEAMtalk, the Gers appear to be closing in on a deal for Dundee winger Luke Graham after agreeing terms with the 22-year-old defender.

The report suggests that the Ibrox side are keen to bring the Scottish youngster to Glasgow this summer, although they will face strong rival interest in his signature, as well as the likes of Norwich City and Portsmouth.

The piece adds that Steven Pressley’s side are holding out for more than £1.5m, with his current deal set to expire in 2027.

How did you compare Graham and Djiga in the Premiership this season

Djiga, to his credit, managed to start a mistake-filled life at Ibrox by emerging as a key player after his Afcon return.

That said, his performances often range from classy to comical, never really seeming comfortable at the heart of the back line.

Against Celtic, for example, the Burkina Faso international was on the move, making 11 appearances in that crucial 3-1 defeat.

He hasn’t shown enough to last long, and if Rangers manage to keep hold of Fernandez, it could be Graham who emerges as Nigeria’s first partner for the centre-back.

A left-footed centre-back, Graham enjoyed another fine season under the watch of Pressley, who was tipped to become a Premier League player later on by his manager.

Aged just 22, he started 35 Premiership games in 2025/26, scoring and assisting three goals, while helping his side to six clean sheets in that time.

In comparison, while Djiga has played his part in seven clean sheets, he has failed to score or assist at all, notably wasting a recent effort at Parkhead earlier this month.

Defensively, both men are efficient, ball-winning linebackers, averaging 2.7 tackles and interceptions each this season, yet Graham still comes out on top in that sense.

Indeed, the £1.5m man has won 67% of all duels and 70% of his aerial matches, proving that asset in both boxes for Pressley’s side.

And, in comparison, Djiga won 65% of all his duels and only 59% of his aerial duels, even though he started 12 fewer games than Graham.

In fact, the Rangers loanee is able to find opposition players, he is clearly unable to handle balls in the box, as his poor air duel quality highlights.

Graham, on the other hand, has all the makings of an outstanding centre-back, which makes it easy to see why there is so much interest in him this summer.

With Andrew Cavenagh and co stating their intention to have a Scottish or SPFL bias when it comes to their summer targets, signing the Dundee man would be the perfect way to start things off.
