De Zerbi could end Gallagher’s Spurs career by offloading Tottenham’s new Modric

If you look at the harsh reality of it, Tottenham Hotspur may not have enough quality to stay in the Premier League.
There are factors that greatly reduce the Londoners, who have been mowed down by players in good form and robbed of confidence during the campaign, but equally, some of these players have spent a long time punching below their so-called weight class, and when does bad form become a permanent standard?
What can Tottenham give a player like Gareth Bale in attack. A maverick and a difference maker. What about Luka Modric in midfield, pulling the strings and organizing like a conductor, encouraging all the qualities that were lacking under Thomas Frank and then Igor Tudor and now Roberto De Zerbi.
It’s not De Zerbi’s fault that Conor Gallagher was chosen by the ENIC Group as the signing of the January transfer window, arriving from Atletico Madrid for £35m, but the England international is clearly not the solution, and may be nearing the end of his career at the club.
Why Conor Gallagher’s Spurs career could be over this summer
Gallagher is still waiting for his first Premier League win in a Tottenham shirt, and based on evidence since his January arrival, he could end his spell in N17 without meeting that target.
The 26-year-old is a symbol of Tottenham’s poor recruitment and a sign of the malaise that has engulfed the club. Watching in the center of the park over the past few months has been difficult, and while De Zerbi clearly likes Gallagher, his poor performance against Sunderland will see him drop ahead of next weekend’s game with Brighton.
In fairness to the fans, they are not asking Gallagher to play like Modric in the middle of the park, but the purposeful passing and running would not be disturbed, as the one-time Chelsea man has lost the ball more than nine times per game on average despite the fact that he has yet to create a big chance for one of the forwards.
De Zerbi’s decision to pair Gallagher with Joao Palhinha in a central midfield pivot at the Stadium of Light was “very interesting”, according to statistician Tactical Matt, with the dynamic duo having no form of development or business in football.
Palhinha is a very good ball winner, and should play it, and if De Zerbi is going to make a quick turnaround, a young midfielder may need to be drafted in. he can be Tottenham’s new version of Modric.
Spurs’ new Modric is bad news for Gallagher
Although he still has an awful long way to go, Lucas Bergvall has a special midfielder, his innate ability on the ball suggests he could be a difference maker in the coming years.
He needs to start, though, and a key role in De Zerbi’s center could prove the difference in the fight against relegation.
Bergvall didn’t have a perfect game against the Black Cats, but he certainly stood out among his struggling teammates, and brought more maturity and ambition to the side.
His play in midfield has even seen Athletic’s JJ Bull claim he has a “first touch like Modric”, and he is excellent when passing the ball forward too.
Having completed 64% of his tackles in the Premier League this season, the Swede has proven his worth starting a team lacking in attacking talent. Although he has missed games through injury, the fact that he has started 11 times has probably played into Tottenham’s problems, with different central pairings throughout the campaign tending to fall by the wayside. i
Bergvall is no Modric, but he is closer to the Croatian legend than Gallagher, and if the Englishman is to be the mainstay of the player in the closing weeks of the season, Tottenham will be in serious trouble, with their current struggle to create chances likely to take them into the second tier.

Bergvall has played his fair share of Premier League football this season, but perhaps not enough. Going forward, it’s fair to argue that he should go ahead of Gallagher in the order, with his natural technical ability and willingness to pass on things that Gallagher doesn’t bring to the table.
