Why Liverpool could hijack a Man Utd target after Diomande’s bid was rejected

Liverpool and Manchester United could put their rivalry in the transfer market to sign the attacking star, who would break the Premier League record instantly.

Liverpool are chasing more wingers after Munoz

The Reds are the ones to watch in the transfer window, having just hijacked Newcastle United’s deal to sign Victor Munoz from Osasuna.

Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes are ready to back up Andoni Iraola, even after spending a lot of time last summer, and it’s an open secret that they are after speedsters.

Confirming the news of Munoz’s arrival, Liverpool released a statement that said: “Liverpool FC has agreed a deal to sign Victor Munoz from Osasuna, subject to a successful work permit application and international clearance.

“This striker, who is currently playing in the World Cup with Spain, has completed a medical examination in the middle of the country in Tennessee in the USA and has signed a long-term contract.

“Munoz is the first to be heard from since the arrival of coach Andoni Iraola and will meet his new team-mates later this summer after the tournament with his national team has concluded.”

And Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Reds will sign another midfielder and midfielder after the Spaniard’s arrival.

At that time, Yan Diomande became the most prominent name. The RB Leipzig star is expected to cost more than £100m this summer amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool.

Liverpool’s initial bid of around £87m was rejected by Leipzig, who wanted £104m, but those at Anfield are ready to focus on other targets if they miss out on Diomande.

The key requirement for any arrivals is full speed and that could see Liverpool attempt to usurp Man United in the race to sign the Ligue 1 sensation.

Liverpool and Man Utd are eyeing the fastest Ligue 1 star

If it’s not Diomande, it might be someone even faster.

According to Ben Jacobs, Liverpool are now looking at a move to sign Matias Fernandez-Pardo, who Man United has been ‘working’ to secure in recent weeks.

It could bring the Premier League’s biggest rivalry to life in the transfer market for the fastest man in England’s top-flight history.

Fernandez-Pardo is not the only Premier League player. At 38.5 km/h, the versatile forward was the fastest player in the Champions League last season, beating Manchester City’s Abdukodir Khusanov.

The 21-year-old isn’t just about speed, either. He also had an eye for goals as he scored eight and set up another seven in all competitions last season.

If Diomande opts for PSG, Liverpool should focus their full attention on the LOSC Lille star and get one from Man United in the process.
