Fourth Period’s Dave Pagnotta joined the Sirius XM NHL Network Radio Power Play segment with Steve Kouleas and Jason Strudwick on Wednesday. There, he was asked about trade rumors about Ottawa Senators forward Brady Tkachuk and where they came from.

Jason Strudwick: “So Pags (Dave Pagnotta) clarified this for me, did these discussions happen because people felt that maybe there was a chance for him to go there, or because they saw other players leaving, like Quinn Hughes or (Mitch) Marner, etc., who or his brother, Matthew Tkachuk want to leave Calgary, and maybe they will see well, and they will see well. Also, where do you see it coming from?”
Dave Pagnotta: “Honestly, Struds, I think it’s both. I think there are groups that will like to hear this conversation, and they’ll say, ‘Well, okay, let’s talk.’ Maybe there is an avenue here, because remember when Matthew Tkachuk was traded. I use his as an example. It’s not because he’s his brother, it’s simple, but not because of that. But it was said that, the Flames will want to move him, they denied that. Then GM Brad Treliving, at the time, said, ‘No, it’s not going to happen at the end of the season.’ Then he was transferred in August.

So, there are groups that want to know. There are groups hearing some conversations, and he brought up Quinn Hughes. I mean, that’s a good enough example about his future and the uncertainty there. We then found out from Jim Rutherford that it was last summer when they found out he wasn’t going to sign an extension with the team, and that they tried to convince him otherwise.
It didn’t work out, and he was moved later in the season. Does that work here too? I don’t think this is a situation where he told the team he was out at any point. I don’t want to put that narrative, but it sounds like this is a combination of people and teams around the league that believe there’s going to be some way to go after him and other good guys, if that’s the case, we want to put our hat in the ring, and I think that will continue through the summer. “

Although everyone will agree that they don’t want to leave, and he and the organization have not said that they want to leave, there are growing rumors, given the state of the country. There is even talk of Auston Matthews leaving Toronto, as he continues to show his loyalty there.
