Tottenham are in talks to submit a new bid for Jan Paul van Hecke

Tottenham have been very busy at the start of the summer transfer window and are now set to make a fresh bid for Roberto De Zerbi, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Spurs have wasted no time in securing new signings for their manager after keeping them in the Premier League last season, snapping up experienced wing-backs Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free deals.

Robertson led his Scotland side to a 1-0 victory in their World Cup opener against Haiti on Saturday evening, while Senesi is part of Argentina’s squad to begin their title defense against Algeria on Tuesday night.

Spurs conceded 57 goals in the league last term – the most of any side left in the division – so it’s no surprise to see strengthening the defense as a priority this summer, and there could be more changes.

Indeed, with Cristian Romero’s future still in doubt and links emerging over the futures of Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence, Brighton have now made a £30million bid to sign Croatia defender Luka Vuskovic.

The 19-year-old, regarded as one of the most exciting young defenders in Europe, thrived last season on loan at Hamburg in the Bundesliga but is yet to feature in the Spurs first team since joining Hajduk Split in 2023.

He was called up to coach Zlatko Dalic’s 26-man squad to play in the World Cup and he may appear in the opening match against England next week.

Spurs will not allow him to continue at a low cost.

Spurs are in talks with Brighton over the sale of centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke with two bids rejected so far, and Romano has now shared the latest on the club’s plans to overhaul their backline.

Tottenham are discussing a new £70m bid for the defender

According to Romano, Spurs are negotiating with Brighton after seeing two bids rejected for Van Hecke.

The journalist claims in his latest YouTube video that the North London giants have not given up and are in talks over new and improved terms, while recent reports suggest that Brighton want £70m for their star.

Romano also confirms that the 26-year-old Netherlands star is keen on a move, perhaps in part due to his links with De Zerbi.

The Tottenham boss repeatedly praised the defender during his time at Brighton, highlighting his “fantastic” attitude and leadership.

“It’s rare to see one young player with that level of personality.”

Van Hecke started 36 of 38 Premier League games for the Seagulls last season, scoring three goals and providing three assists.
