The Tottenham star is determined to leave “against” even if he always blows De Zerbi

Tottenham are determined to lose a top player this summer even if they retain their Premier League status, according to a new report.

Spurs are preparing for a season-defining clash with Leeds as they bid for Arsenal’s favour

On Monday night at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Roberto De Zerbi’s are about to play the most important home game of their season.

Spurs sit in 17th place with 37 points, one point above West Ham in 18th, and face Leeds knowing that victory could open up a four-point cushion in the final two games – against Chelsea and Everton – who are more manageable opponents than those on West Ham’s road.

The eyes of Spurs fans will be trained on a different stadium long before kick-off on Monday night.

Arsenal’s trip to West Ham on Sunday represents an opportunity for the Hammers to close the gap on Spurs or go above them, and the result of that game sets the stage for Monday’s game.

Tottenham want to sign ‘underrated’ Newcastle star who is now ‘on his way out’

Spurs have apparently identified him as a summer target.

De Zerbi goes into the game without Cristian Romero, Xavi Simons, Dominic Solanke, Ben Davies, Mohammed Kudus, Guglielmo Vicario and Dejan Kulusevski – an injury list that has robbed the team of its best form at the worst time.

Antonín Kinsky continues in goal, with the back four of Pero Porro, Kevin Danso, Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie likely to remain strong, while Richarlison will lead the line in Solanke’s absence.

Leeds are unbeaten in their last six Premier League games and have no real concerns, but Spurs have won five of the last six league meetings between the teams, which provides encouragement.

In this tough time to survive, news has emerged from TalkSPORT reporter Ben Jacobs that adds a grim layer to the context of Tottenham’s summer planning, regardless of how the coming weeks unfold.

Cristian Romero is set to leave even if Tottenham stay top

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jacobs did some in-depth research on Romero’s future at the club.

Spurs-Cristian-Romero

“My information about Cristian Romero is that he will leave even if Tottenham stays in the Premier League, or at least there are more chances of that,” he said.

“It would be a tough exit for Tottenham.”

The Argentine has been one of Tottenham’s most important players since arriving from Atalanta in 2021, becoming the club’s captain and one of the first names on the team sheet under successive managers.

Romero made 23 Premier League appearances before a knee injury in April prematurely ended his campaign, and it would have been better had it not been for his suspension.

His recovery has been progressing, but the indication from Jacobs is that the injury has not changed the way to go – a move this summer seems very likely outside the Spurs division next season.

Time is ticking.

For a club trying to rebuild under De Zerbi, who may have survived relegation, losing their captain and influential defender in the same window is a huge setback.

Romero has been heavily linked with a move to Atletico Madrid from 2025, while other English rivals such as Man United could look to capitalize on the World Cup winner’s form.

However, for now, survival must come first.

Leeds, the West Ham result, and the two games after that. Everything else is waiting.
