The Buffalo Sabers should bring back Alex Tuch; they cannot let him go, and the price may continue to rise
Alex Tuch has posted consecutive 33+ goal seasons (33 and 36), and three in the last four years (36 in 2022-23). He has three goals and three assists in four playoff games so far. He will get Selke’s attention for his defensive play this year. His number could go up if the Sabers keep winning, and his play continues. The Sabers may have no choice but to pay this man and put him in jail for a long time.
Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman, to the Buffalo Sabers pending UFA forward Alex Tuch. If the Sabers and Tuch have a good playoff run, that’s when they should re-sign him. They can’t let him go.

Matt Marchese: “Listen, I understand there’s a chance Alex Tuch doesn’t get free agency, but watching a game like that (Thursday) night, there’s 31 teams that are going to play and say ‘Boy, I really hope he gets free, because he’s a difference maker.’

Friedman: “So what I think, like me, I thought the best thing to happen to Tuch, is that they don’t sign him in the regular season, I mean, I think it would be better for everyone involved if he was signed in the regular season.
But I thought his best, his best path to the biggest price he could get was, he goes into the playoffs unsigned, and he has a great playoff. Then what will the Buffalo do? They will have to do it, right?”
Marchese: “Yes.”
Friedman: “At least, that’s my opinion. Like you guys tell me if you think I’m wrong. If they’re having big playoffs and they’re playing well, how can you let them go?”
Marchese: “Can I take it, can I go on even a little bit?
Friedman: “Okay. I mean, that’s good enough.”
Marchese: “But I think you are right.
Mike Futa: “But I think the number, the number…”
Marchese: “The number is different now, something that Buffalo was comfortable with.
Futa: “Yes, Buffalo was hopeful, early on.
Friedman: “The thing is, they still have to close it out, right? They still have to win. But again, and I give (David) Amber credit for this, because Amber is one of the guys who put it in my head. That Amber was big in Selke’s Tuch, and she didn’t finish first in my poll, but she’s on my vote.

And, and you know, if you look, in the game they won, the first one. He’s iced at the end of the game to find an empty net. And (Thursday) night, he scored a big goal.
Like, they have to close this, and they have to win. But I’m like, I just look at this, and it’s like, bet, the longer they go the better you do. And so far, they have reached (two), and he is playing well. I just don’t see that Nathi won’t be able to do that.”
