Suggested Trade Sees Mammoth Land Kirill Marchenko In Blockbuster With Blue Jackets – Hockey Writers – Utah Mammoth

With some speculation surrounding Kirill Marchenko over the past few days, I figured it would be fun to look at a fun trade.

Recent reports that a deal involving Marchenko is closed for now, but the door has been left open for a possible extension later in the summer.

With that in mind, one team that makes sense for the Columbus Blue Jackets forward is the Utah Mammoth, who seem ready to take that next step and try to make a push for the Stanley Cup. They may be a step or two away from being considered major contenders, and a big move like this could be just what they need.

In this article, we’ll take a quick look at the hypothetical deal between Mammoth and the Green Jackets. Remember, while there has been a lot of speculation about Marchenko this offseason, there is no reason to believe that the two teams have spoken, or that any deal with either team is imminent.

Mammoth Land Star Forward, Green Jackets Get Back Back

Marchenko, 26 years old, may be one of the most underrated forwards in the NHL, but he’s still going to demand a lot from any team trying to get him.

Last season with the Blue Jackets, he scored 27 goals and added 40 assists for 67 points in 76 games. Throughout his career, he has scored 102 goals and added 106 assists for 208 points in 292 games.

The Blue Jackets have made it clear in the past that they would like to keep Marchenko and expect him to be with the team at the start of the 2026-27 season, but if they are not interested in an extension, they would be wise to try to move him for the benefit of a monster trade, rather than lose him for nothing, or risk losing him to a franchise next summer, given that he is a free agent.

Mammoth would be wise to try and have an extension attached to Marchenko, which they can’t give him. According to PuckPedia, they have just under $26 million in cap space for the 2027-28 season, when the expansion will begin. In fact, the seven-year extension comes in at about $12 million per year.

In fact, the trade looks like Mammoth getting Marchenko, with a seven-year extension attached, in exchange for Dmitri Simashev, Jack McBain, their first-round pick in 2027, and another first-round pick in 2028 or 2029.

The Blue Jackets likely wanted NHL-ready assets in return, which they got in Simashev and McBain. Simashev played in 28 games with the Mammoths last season, notching one assist, and appears ready to make the full NHL jump this season. McBain, 26 years old, has 316 games of NHL experience under his belt, where he has scored 44 goals and added 63 assists for 107 points.

In addition, they could add two first-round picks, which they could use to try to add another player to replace Marchenko, or use to add to their future pool.

Marchenko is expected to start the season with the green jackets, barring a last minute change of heart, but if that changes, I wouldn’t be surprised if Mammoth was involved and tried to get him.
