St. Louis Blues is looking at Retooling not Reconstruction

St. Louis Blues were heavily involved in trade talks leading up to the deadline. Will that continue this offseason?

The Daily Faceoff: David Pagnotta, St. Who would reopen trade talks?

** NHLRumors.com transcript

Irfaan Gaffar: “Finally, the St. Louis Blues. Doug Armstrong is out, Alex Steen is in. What, like the St. Louis Blues is interesting because everyone was on the trade block, and no one was really traded. And now everyone will continue to be on the trade block, and they will trade themselves to rebuild?”

Pagnotta: “Yeah, that’s an interesting thing. It doesn’t feel like a full rebuild. It’s just like, it feels like it’s being recycled. And it still feels like it’s being recycled.

Vancouver Canucks GM Lists About Getting Little by Little

As the only main guy they moved, as they obviously tried to trade (Colton) Parayko, and it looks like they’re going to continue to test that this offseason. But what came out of that was that he wanted to live in the West. The Western Conference, and if he is motivated, he wants to be more western.

So, and that’s good. Like the other guys we have talked about this before. Vinnie Trocheck in New York, wanted to stay in Mpumalanga if he was sold. He does not have the full protection that Parayko has, but his choice is to stay in the East or go to the West. Parayko is the opposite.

I’ve talked a lot about Jordan Kyrou this past year, going back to the summer. The Blues are keen to make that happen. Offensively, there are obvious regressions, but defensively, he had a really good season, if you look at his defensive numbers. And I put him in a position to be successful, offensively, a change of position, I think he’s still open to that, and I think the Blues will continue to explore that this summer.

Robert Thomas, the price was too high. Unless the team is willing, and all teams know what that price is. So if they change their mind and say, ‘Yeah, I can pull this off,’ then they’ll check that out this summer as well. Remember, yes there are, you said it, from Armstrong to Steen. That technically doesn’t happen until July 1. Doug Armstrong is still running things overall, and of course, Steen’s part of that. Apparently, they are not, they are not stopping him from leaving. But this is the kind of team that’s come together here about that change that’s happening.

Anaheim Ducks Exploit Edmonton Oilers Defensive Weaknesses

Jordan Binington may be on the way

Another guy who seems to have a bigger chance than ever to be removed this offseason. Also, it’s possible they’ll confirm but it looks like it’s Jordan Binington. They really like (Joel) Hofer. Binner got another year on his contract. The last year of his contract.

They will have teams looking to score goals this summer. They will be talking to St. Louis about Jordan Binington.

And it could be, you know, it could be Florida. What happened to Bobrovsky, as he is still looking for a long-term deal there? You are willing to take a small amount, but you want a long term. What happened in Carolina? Doing well against Ottawa right now. Freddy Andersen is a UFA. Signing (Brandon) Bussi, to a three-year extension. You have (Pyotr) Kochetkov coming back. Is that what Carolina is aiming for?

You know, and so on, like Edmonton. What happened to the Oilers? What happened to Pittsburgh and so on?

NHL Rumors: The Nashville Predators, and the St. Louis Blues

So it looks more likely than ever that the Blues go that route in terms of trading, you know, Jordan Binington this summer. But it’s two to tango, so we’ll see where that goes. But the Blues, it is clear that they will continue to be aggressive and diligent. We’ll just see what can come down the line between now, you know, summer and summer and next season.”
