Spurs ready to agree £325k-a-week deal to sign World Cup star

The midfield may be at the fore at Tottenham Hotspur, although it cannot be denied that Roberto De Zerbi’s side are also crying out for a strengthened attack, following a poor 2025/26 campaign.

A team that has played with the likes of Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Gareth Bale was forced to see Randal Kolo Muani again working hard last week, who had reached the final of the World Cup and scored the only goal of the Premier League.

The Frenchman is yesterday’s news now, however, as there is an opportunity for De Zerbi to form a new line up forward, after such recent displays.

Last year, the Lilywhites were linked with the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Antoine Semenyo, however the north Londoners could be ready to raid the Premier League for different targets this time around.

Spurs ready to agree £325-a-week deal to sign World Cup star

It wasn’t long ago that Spurs went 18 months without a first-team signing under Mauricio Pochettino, although there is no chance of that happening again with De Zerbi now in charge.

The Italian appears to be leading the club in Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, determined to bring both men to N17 despite the need to shell out record-breaking fees for both.

On the other hand, it is expected that ENIC will renew its pursuit of the goals of 2025, Savinho, the Brazilian who is expected to leave Manchester City for a fee of around £60m.

More interestingly, however, is that Spurs may be raiding rivals Manchester United for another marquee striker, with journalist Samuel Luckhurst providing the latest on their bid for Marcus Rashford.

According to Luckhurst, United are keen to make a move for the 28-year-old after his 18-month loan spell, as the Champions League finalists see the Englishman’s wages rise to £325k-a-week.

That figure may not be acceptable to many clubs, although the report suggests that Spurs would be willing to comply with these demands, which could see Rashford become their top earner.

Such investment could be aided by the star player’s price tag, with an estimated £40m previously released.

Rashford could be another Bale-like figure at Spurs

There is no denying that there is talent in Tottenham’s attacking midfield, however it has not been shown regularly, with the likes of Dominic Solanke and Mohammed Kudus hit by injury last season.

Tottenham's Mohammed Kudus is injured

The fact that the prolific Richarlison led the way for both goals and total goal involvement perhaps says it all, with the Brazilian still scoring just 27 goals since his £60m arrival in 2022.

Whether it’s the former Everton man, Solanke or Kudus, Spurs continue to use the same figures yet see little return on their investment, not by placing their trust in players who have proven themselves to be elite for a long time.

Rashford, by contrast, has long been a dominant force in English and European football, and while he may have his critics, it’s hard to argue with his career record so far.

The former United man has scored 138 goals in 426 appearances for the Red Devils since making his debut a decade ago, and even his loan spell has been fruitful, starting with a ten-goal haul in just 17 appearances for Aston Villa.

Last season, he did little to impress at Barcelona, scoring 28 goals and assisting in just 49 games, only 26 of which were starts.

Even in international games, he is starting to increase his reputation, as he has scored three goals in the 2022 World Cup, since he won from the bench against Croatia in England’s opener.

Perhaps it hasn’t been seen enough, but at his best, Rashford is a force to be reckoned with, labeled “unstoppable” by Erik ten Hag for his 30-goal season back in 2022/23.

There are shades of the aforementioned Bale in the way he can outrun defenders down the flank or in midfield, a fearsome, powerful talent in the final third.

The beauty of his game and, like the Welshman, is that there is a product to match that speed and athleticism, matching the retired player with his ability to fight at an amazing level.

He certainly has that Bale-like ability to fire in a long-range dipping effort, missing the net against Wales in Qatar four years ago with a long-range free-kick.

Rashford has that rare quality to win a game on his own, even last time he proved successful at the Camp Nou, despite the LaLiga club’s reluctance to snap him up for good.

He has joined the likes of Jude Bellingham and Bale in making a mark at one of Spain’s top two, firmly putting his recent United woes behind him.

Now may be the time for Spurs to make a move to keep him in the Premier League, the north Londoners haven’t had that kind of forward on their books since the likes of Kane, Son and Bale years ago.
