Weekly Notes:

Note: All Player Rater statistics and values are accurate for Sunday’s games.

Jacob Latz 2 SV, 2:0 K:BB. Our topic of the week is another Texas Ranger that comes out of nowhere. First it was Junis, now this boy. I’ve never been very happy with Junes, but Latz is starting to impress me. Over 17.7 IP, he allowed 5 H, 2 ER, 1 HR, and just 3 BB while striking out 15. You can see how the metrics stack up below. It doesn’t shine by any means, but it does enough. And the rate of walking, doe! There have only been three saves by the Rangers in the past 14 days, and all of them have been saved by Latz. You’re a pig in the head now, pard.

Lucas Erceg 1 W, 3 SV, 6:2 K:BB. Welp, I said last week that Erceg has some work to do to get back into my good plans. I got half the sense to think that he actually read what I had to say. A dub and three saves in one week is a great football career. Winning is random, of course, so you can’t read too much into that. But I have to say, that’s where K:BB makes me happy. He is very concerned about the quality of his stuff and the lack of strikes. Here’s to hopin’ the trend continues.

Bryan Baker 3 SV, 5:0 K:BB. Who would have thought Bryan Baker would be SV’s only league player? Everyone under the sun thought that Griffin Jax would run away with the gig after Fairbanks left.

Cole Sulser 1 SV, 2 HLD, 5:1 K:BB. Give the alien a shout out by collecting counter stats and throwing a good K:BB. However, it may be the last time I write about him for the rest of the year.

George Soriano 1 SV, 2 HLD, 3:2 K:BB. Such is the case.

Seranthony Dominguez 1 W, 1 L, 2 SV, 3:1 K:BB. It’s an unusual week with a lot of decisions. All in all, he was really good. The White Sox pray that he will continue to pick up the penny deadline.

Jack Perkins 2 SV, 5:0 K:BB. Three of the last four saves went to Mr. Perkins. Obviously, the leader is back there now, and the metrics are definitely good. 89th percentile in both K% and BB%. You don’t see that every day. Add him wherever you can.

Louis Varland 2 Kings, 7:1 K:BB. A great start to the season, showing no signs of slowing down.

Aroldis Chapman 2 SV, 5:0 K:BB

Kade Smith 2 SV, 3:0 K:BB

David Bednar 2 SV, 3:0 K:BB

Riley O’Brien 2 SV, 3:0 K:BB

Notable sellers with 2 SVHD this week:

Kyle Finnegan 1 SV, 1 HLD, 4:2 K:BB. Jansen, after nursing it, was unavailable due to a groin injury. It sounds like you will avoid IL, but you never really know. And the boy is 38. Finny’s season so far he shouts luck, but so was his time in Washington as one of the best closers you can find. Dude you just do it…somehow. A 0.54 ERA this year compared to a 4.17 FIP. And you have a yucky 13:10 K:BB.

Gus Varland 1 SV, 1 HLD, 2:0 K:BB. It’s annoying to see him get 8th in a game where Lovelady made the save, but whatever.

Didier Fuentes 1 W, 2 HLD, 1:1 K:BB. We’ve turned heads for Spring and now we’ve had a good week like dice. It’s hard to feel confident seeing regular SVHD opps with Lee and Kinley around.

Fernando Cruz 1 W, 2 HLD, 4:1 K:BB. He feels like he should have a lot more HLD than this year. He surpassed 100 K last year and already has 19 in just 12.2 IP this year. One of the best splitters you’ll ever see: he has a 56.7 Whiff% so far.

Brooks Raley 2 HLD, 6:0 K:BB. He always loved her secretly. It’s good if you’re healthy.

Erik Sabrowski 1 W, 2 HLD, 4:1 K:BB. The league leader in SVHD continues to grow. Up to 24:6 K:BB now.

Tyler Rogers 2 HLD, 4:0 K:BB.

Rico Garcia 2 HLD, 3:0 K:BB. With Helsley out, Garcia should own ding dang all around: 0.61 ERA, 0.34 WHP, 16:4 K:BB in 2026.

Juan Morillo 2 HLD, 5:0 K:BB

Jeff Hoffman 2 HLD, 4:1 K:BB

Garrett Whitlock 2 HLD, 3:0 K:BB

Tony Santillan 1 L, 2 HLD, 2:3 K:BB

Notable bummers of the week:

Ryan Walker 2 BSV, 1 L, 15.88 ERA, 2.94 WHIP. A bar. Hate him again.

Kenley Jansen 1 BSV, 1 L, ??? ERA, ??? WHIP. You did not record an exit this week. He has DTD with that hip injury.

Jaden Hill 1 BSV, 25.71 ERA, 2.86 WHIP. He’s somehow caught a lot of things lately, but he’s pretty bad.

Dennis Santana 1 BSV, 1 L, 21.18 ERA, 3.53 WHIP

Adrian Morejon 1 BSV, 1 L, 6.14 ERA, 1.14 ERA. It really wasn’t that bad, but now that Estrada is back, he should be nailed.

Injury news this week:

Daniel Palencia activated!

Phil Maton activated! I don’t know if he’s worth yelling or screaming at.

Jeremiah Estrada activated!

John Duran it might work by the time you read this!

Ryan Helsley hit the IL. Swelling of the elbow. Maybe you should move on and expect the worst. That was the year.

Erik Miller hit the IL. Low back. I can relate to that; My bottom is trash. While he’s out, I’m waiting Keaton Winn again Caleb Kilian climbing, because Walker is doo doo.

Cole Sands hit the IL. Arm stiffness. Roh roh. Justin Topa I only got SV this week. Wager him again Taylor Rogers do a lot of work thinking about it now.

Matt Brash hit the IL. Right lat inflammation. Gabe Speier it also hits IL. Applause. Jose Ferrer again Eduard Bazardo get bumped.

That’s it for this week! Thanks for reading. Leave me a comment below to make me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Chances are pretty good I was drinking black coffee, dark beer, or some form of bourbon while writing what you just read. By day, I am a high school English teacher. I’ve completely left X/Twitter, so you can find me on Bluesky: @jkj0787.bsky.social, where I provide daily bullpen recaps to my loyal tens of followers.
