West Ham join Rangers in swoop for ‘amazing’ £12m midfielder
West Ham United have joined the race to sign Tromso IL midfielder Jens Hjerto Dahl, who is in talks to join Scotland’s Rangers.
The Hammers are eyeing a summer signing ahead of the crucial clash with Wolves
West Ham have a good chance of moving out of the Premier League play-off places on Friday night, as they host bottom-of-the-table Wolverhampton Wanderers at the London Stadium.
Nuno’s side will go into the match after a disappointing FA Cup final defeat against Leeds United, but the manager is confident his side will be able to bounce back, saying: “We had a difficult couple of days after Leeds, because we were very optimistic and we believed we could get to Wembley.
“It was disappointing, but at the same time, we showed a good reaction to the game, and that we can fight. We didn’t give up until the end, and now we are moving forward, realizing that our big fight starts on Friday. We know the situation, but we are confident and we believe in each other.”
If the Hammers beat Rob Edwards’ team, they will move up to 17th place, two points behind their rivals Tottenham Hotspur, which is a big incentive going into this game.
The quality of the player that West Ham will be able to sign this summer depends on whether they can avoid relegation, but now they have entered the race to sign Hjerto Dahl, who is also wanted by Celtic, Rangers, Besiktas, Wolves, Benfica, Sporting CP and Hamburg SV.
The Hammers are better than Besiktas in the race for his signature, according to pundit Jesper Mathisen, who said:With all due respect to Turkey; Yes, Jens Hjertø-Dahl is not going there. He’s going to a much better league than that.”
The Gers’ interest appears to have increased significantly, having recently held talks, but the Hammers are now trying to hijack a deal for the midfielder, who has four goals to his name in two Eliteserien games this season.
Scout Drin Gashi is also a fan of the 20-year-old, who is worth an estimated €13.4m (£12m), saying: “He is a smooth player with excellent control of the ball and a refined first touch. Naturally, these qualities make him a good driver as well. Despite his age, his composure is already at a high level. In addition, his vision and decision-making on the pitch are truly impressive.”
The former Barcelona player has agreed a new deal after repeated links with West Ham and England
He has not yet responded to his party’s request.
West Ham could be set for a summer rebuild
Even if West Ham remain in the Premier League, a summer rebuild could be on the cards, as it has recently emerged that they could be set to land Crysencio Summerville for a record-breaking fee this summer, amid interest from Tottenham.
Mateus Fernandes has also attracted a lot of attention, with Liverpool the latest club to be named as potential suitors, with the Hammers putting a hefty asking price.
