Newcastle are pushing hard to sign the £34m “explosive” star

Anthony Gordon became Newcastle United’s second most expensive signing when he completed a move to Spanish side Barcelona earlier this week.

The England international has completed a £70m move to Camp Nou, a cut from the £125m Liverpool paid for Alexander Isak last summer.

Gordon, who showed off his amazing Spanish during his Barcelona debut, is leaving St. James’ Park after scoring 17 goals and providing five assists in all competitions in the 2025/26 campaign.

The 25-year-old star has scored 38 goals and assisted a further 21 in his three full seasons on Tyneside after leaving Everton midway through the 2022/23 season.

Eddie Howe will now lack his pace and play directly on the left side where he will start next season, which is why the Magpies must enter the market to find a replacement for him.

Newcastle are ramping up efforts to sign Anthony Gordon as a replacement

Although Gordon has only scored six goals in the Premier League this season, the striker’s statistics throughout his career at the club show that they have lost a major threat.

Now, PIF are reportedly looking to bring in a talent who could be Howe’s next version of the former Everton man on the left wing next season.

According to reports from X, PIF are pushing for a deal from Newcastle United for Hoffenheim striker Bazoumana Toure in next summer’s transfer window.

It is said that the Drums stepping up their efforts to bring Ivorian talent to the Premier League, and are now pushing hard to get a move over the line this summer.

Previous reports have suggested that the German club would like to do business for a price of £34m, but it remains to be seen how much the PIF are willing to pay for his services. Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in the 20-year-old winger, meaning Newcastle may have to move quickly to beat their Premier League rivals.

How Bazoumana Toure can be like Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon

How could he have his new version of Gordon on the left wing if the club can get a deal done with Hoffenheim for Toure this summer, as he can offer similar attributes across the board.

He is not exactly the same as the Englishman, as he is a left-footed player, but both are fast left-footed players who can score goals, assists and handle the ball.

The £34m talent ranks in the top 7% of players in the Bundesliga for good drives (48) and the top 7% for possessions won in the final third (21), showing that he is similar to Gordon in the sense that he likes to dribble defenders and is an excellent presser.

Toure also finished the 2025/26 league season with twice as many ‘big chances’ as the former Newcastle striker, while scoring one fewer goal.

While there is no certainty that his form will translate to the Premier League, the Ivory Coast star looks capable of giving the Magpies more in the final third than the English, especially as a creative threat.

They will meet Touré

The forward was once described as an “explosive” player by talent scout Jacek Kulig, and that’s a description that resonates with Gordon, who uses his pace to create chaos at the end of the pitch.

What is often a problem for players like these is that they are not strong enough when they are in front of the goals after using speed to get into good areas, but both of these stars have shown that they can score goals and assist accordingly.

Gordon

At 20, Toure is also five years younger than Gordon and will arrive in St. James’ Park has plenty of time left in front of him to develop and improve as he gains more experience, meaning he could be a great signing now and in the future.

Losing Gordon is painful, as he has already proven himself in the Premier League, but the Hoffenheim star has all the qualities and potential to become Howe’s new version of the star left winger if the club can secure a deal in the coming weeks.
