Mateus Fernandes is set to join Tottenham for £85m

Fabrizio Romano has revealed one of Tottenham Hotspur’s top summer transfer targets will agree personal terms with the North Londoner if he agrees a transfer fee with his club.
Spurs have been the busiest team in the Premier League at the start of the transfer window, and ENIC have worked hard to rebuild Roberto De Zerbi’s side and their relationship with the club’s support.
The Lewis family promised to rebuild trust with fans this summer in an open letter last month, saying they would support the manager this summer.
“This will require investment – in our teams, in the school, in our classroom activities and so on – and we are fully committed to this.
“We are not selling the club, we are all here, we are investing in it, you will see the rest in the coming months.
“We care deeply about Spurs. The rebuilding of the club that needs, and should, has begun. The change needed is profound. It will take time and commitment, but change is happening.
“We know that actions will speak louder than words.”
And they’ve certainly made a good start, working quickly to turn around a defense that conceded more goals than any other side to stay in the top flight last season.
Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi were the first to arrive on a free transfer before Netherlands star Jan Paul van Hecke joined in a £52m deal last week.

De Zerbi praised the defender’s leadership during their time together at Brighton and by signing the 26-year-old, while he also told Spurs not to sell Micky van de Ven, so it seems that Spurs will be focusing on the Dutchman for many years to come.
Fabrizio Romano: De Zerbi wants Liverpool target to lead Tottenham project
Liverpool and Tottenham are set to battle it out for the future of the in-demand defender.
Next on the agenda is midfield reinforcements, with the likes of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes linked as major investors, and Romano shared an update on Spurs’ efforts to improve in the center of the park.
Romano: £85m star to agree personal terms with Tottenham
Speaking in his latest YouTube video, the journalist shared an update on West Ham star Fernandes, confirming that all three interested parties – Tottenham, Real Madrid and Manchester United – have spoken to the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes.
And while United are the only ones in talks with his club, Romano has revealed good news for Spurs fans, with Fernandes happy to agree a personal deal with any club that meets the Hammers’ terms.
“The feeling is who will bring the best offer to West Ham – they start at £85m to get probably more, because they believe that every day more clubs enter the race.
“The team that will come with a good proposal to West Ham will be able to close the deal with the player.”
The 21-year-old scored three goals and provided four assists in the Premier League last term, but what has been most impressive is his work in football.
Indeed, the young Portuguese averaged 2.9 tackles per game, which was the most in the West Ham team and would have been second only to his neighbour, Joao Palhinha, at Tottenham.
