Man Utd are eyeing a move to sign Alex Scott, who is “a great partner” with Anderson

Manchester United continue their pursuit of midfielders after agreeing a deal to sign Atalanta’s Ederson, and could now spend big on the Premier League star.

It’s no secret that space is a priority for the Red Devils ahead of next season and Ederson could be the first of a number of great additions.

For all their money-saving hacks, INEOS could spend big to land a familiar face for Michael Carrick, with Elliot Anderson high on their shopping list.

Although the Nottingham Forest midfielder may be heading to Manchester City at this stage, Man United are not giving up any time soon and are hoping to lure him to Old Trafford.

It’s not a deal that will come cheap, however. Man City have already been told to pay £120m without add-ons and that would make Anderson their and Man United’s most expensive signing ever.

There is also the matter of Mateus Fernandes to consider. The West Ham United star is a wanted man following the relegation of the Hammers and they are reported to have put up a huge £85m asking price. Again, Man United would hesitate to match such a fee.

So, it’s clear that those at Old Trafford have a lot to think about. Midfield additions are high on their priority list, but they may have no choice but to leave both Fernandes and Anderson behind for another option.

Man Utd are exploring a £60m signing for the star

According to The Athletic, Man United are also exploring a deal to sign Alex Scott from Bournemouth this summer. The England man enjoyed an excellent campaign with the Cherries, who cost him £60m, and has done enough to get on the Red Devils’ radar.

He represents a cheaper option to Anderson and Fernandes without losing that important quality. There is also the possibility, with that asking price, that Man United could sign Scott and Anderson in what would be a perfect match for two close friends. Nathan Salt of the Daily Mail went so far as to say that the two were “best friends”.

As midfield partnerships go, Anderson and Scott could be a transformative pair for Man United, who would go from a side struggling to gain control to a team that dominates the middle of the park.
