Man City see opening bid rejected for Elliot Anderson
According to a report from David Ornstein of The Athletic, Manchester City have officially opened a bid for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson. While Forest were quick to reject the first bid, City’s pursuit of the England international continues.
The City Ground club are under no pressure to sell cheap and will look to secure the best deal for the 23-year-old if he leaves this summer.
The benchmark for elite Premier League midfielders has risen dramatically over the past few windows; fellow midfielders Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, and Declan Rice were all moved for more than £100 million.
In particular, the £105 million package that Arsenal agreed to pay West Ham for Rice in July 2023 is seen by some industry insiders as the base price any suitor would need to hit with confirmed figures to land Anderson.
The basis for possible expressions may have already been laid at a very high level.
The report claims that Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis and City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak spoke at the UEFA Champions League dinner in Budapest last Thursday, an event attended by a number of senior figures in football.
However, it added that there was no suggestion that the two managers had actively discussed Anderson’s deal over the meal.
Any successful move for Anderson could add to a huge summer of change at the Etihad Stadium.
City are already facing a period of major change following the departure of Pep Guardiola after 10 years in power, and the departure of experienced dressing room leaders John Stones and Bernardo Silva.
Man United still want to sign Anderson
Manchester United have also had a long-term interest in the Forest star as they look to rebuild their midfield.
In fact, one of the reasons why Man City rushed to sign Anderson could be to get a deal done as quickly as possible.
Romano revealed last week that Man City are pushing hard for the English midfielder as they know about Man United ‘costing and costing’ Anderson.
Romano said of Anderson on his YouTube channel: “Don’t forget that Manchester City also continue to want to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest.
“They know that Manchester United are still calling and calling, but Manchester City are still pushing.
“I told you in March that they were always favorites to sign Elliot Anderson.
“They have made a decision about that.
“Therefore, Man City believes that they can really tempt Elliot Anderson, and this has not changed, and with Enzo Maresca, City wants Anderson.
“It’s not just about Guardiola. Now about Maresca, City are still looking for him. Let’s see what happens with Nottingham Forest, Man Utd is still trying to call.”
