Lucas Chevalier is ignoring offers to join Tottenham this summer

Tottenham captain Cristian Romero will not join Manchester United this summer as the Lilywhites want to strengthen Roberto De Zerbi’s team rather than weaken it.

Tottenham transfer updates: Romero, Davies, new goalkeeper

Speculation over Romero’s future has increased this week amid speculation in the Argentina defender’s home country that the Old Trafford club are ready to make a bid for the 28-year-old.

However, sources understand those reports are far-fetched and Romero is not on United’s list alongside head coach Michael Carrick.

Tottenham are still open to offers for the defender after a disastrous 2025-26 campaign in which Romero received two red cards and a separate suspension before missing the last six games with a knee injury.

Romero again hit the headlines ahead of the final game of the season after returning to Argentina to complete his rehabilitation despite Spurs’ Premier League status being on the line at home to Everton on May 24.

The World Cup winner subsequently returned to England to be present at the transfer deadline day, but the north London club will sell the defender for the right price and Atletico Madrid have a long-standing interest in the player.

Spurs are still determined to strengthen their defense.

One man who won’t be leaving though is fellow back-rower Ben Davies.

Davies has signed a new 12-month contract at Tottenham to extend his stay at the club for a 13th season and the Wales captain could be joined by a new goalkeeper in the coming weeks.

Tottenham are trying to land the PSG star

Indeed, reports in France claim that Spurs are one of the few teams to make a move to sign PSG stopper Lucas Chevalier.

According to L’Équipe, both Tottenham and Besiktas have been in contact to sign the 24-year-old Frenchman, who joined the Champions League winners last summer amid much anticipation, but lost his place to Matvéi Safónov.

And perhaps because of that experience, Chevalier is said to be ready to turn down ‘high salaries’ offered in Turkey in order to deliver an attractive project.

Spurs are likely to say goodbye to a goalkeeper this summer in the form of Guglielmo Vicario, who has been heavily linked with a return to Italy, which could open the way for Chevalier to seek a starting position in North London.

Tottenham are also set to pursue Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, but will face competition for his signature from Aston Villa.
