Liverpool hold talks to re-sign Darwin Nunez, Andoni Iraola is keen on him

Liverpool are now considering a surprise move for the “incredible” player, who is highly regarded by Andoni Iraola, and talks are already underway.

Iraola wipes the slate clean after replacing Arne Slot at Anfield

After a very disappointing season, which saw the Reds stumble out of Champions League qualification by finishing fifth in the Premier League, Iraola insisted that the current squad will get a chance to prove themselves.

However, the new manager also hinted that there may be new arrivals in the next few months, saying: “I think there is still work to be done, as usual for all clubs at this time of the season.

“But right now, for me the most important thing is to appreciate especially the players we currently have in the team. For me, and I will tell them, [they] all new signatories.

“For me, you are all young players and I think we have high quality in our team, too [I’m] We look forward to working with them.”

With Ibrahima Konate set to join Real Madrid, signing a new full-back will be important, but bringing in another centre-forward would also be crucial, with Hugo Ekitike set for a long spell on the sidelines.

Liverpool are holding talks to sign an “unbelievable” forward.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Liverpool are now considering a move to sign former striker Darwin Nunez, who joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal in a £46m deal last summer.

However, Nunez will be on the market again, having agreed to terminate his Al-Hilal contract early, with a number of clubs from across Europe interested, including the Reds, Chelsea, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Merseyside club are ‘very mixed’ to secure the Uruguayan, and Iraola is known to be a big fan, having been impressed by the quality of his work.

Ally McCoist also praised the 26-year-old after backing Harvey Elliott’s Gaps winner against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League for the 2024-2025 season, saying: “Unbelievable ball from Darwin Nunez, because nine times out of ten he hits this. He doesn’t, he takes the right option. Look at Nunez, he usually pulls the trigger there, it looks like an easy pass and it’s there but there’s the first strike, your secret.”

That said, while Nunez impressed at times in a Liverpool shirt, Arne Slot dropped him for good reason, and he only conceded five goals in 30 Premier League games in his final season at Anfield.

With that in mind, the Reds should not consider re-signing the 38-cap Uruguay international this summer, unless his wage demands are low, and he is willing to play a limited role.
