Liverpool are rejecting Inter Milan’s approach for Curtis Jones as the Reds stand firm in their financial calculations

Liverpool have rejected a new approach from Inter Milan for Curtis Jones as the Reds continue to hold firm in the midfielder’s reckoning.

The Italian giants submitted a new verbal offer 24 hours ago worth 25 million euros (£21 million package), which was immediately rejected by the Merseyside club.

According to prominent journalists Fabrizio Romano and Paul Joyce, there is still no agreement between the two clubs as Liverpool values the academy student at a very high price and has no intention of continuing the deal under the current circumstances.

Ben Jacobs on Liverpool’s move to Curtis Jones

Journalist Ben Jacobs revealed that Inter’s insistence has caused a major change in the situation at Anfield.

Inter took a new approach last week to ask if a deal could be reached for around 25 million euros, setting the contact as an informal discussion rather than a written offer.

Liverpool were quick to make it clear that they would not approve a sale at this price point, especially given the huge sums other midfielders are expected to command in the transfer market this summer.

As a result, the club’s position has become difficult. While Liverpool are willing to approve a sale if a reasonable, inflated price is met, they are equally open to keeping Jones in the final year of his contract, even if that means risking losing him on a free transfer next summer.

Ben Jacobs posted the following update on X:

“Inter made a new approach to Curtis Jones last week asking if a deal for around €25m is possible.

“This was not an official or written offer. Liverpool have made it clear that there is no sale at this price, especially given the number of other midfielders expected to be sold this summer.

“Liverpool are determined to keep Jones unless a suitable bid comes along, even if that means losing him for free next summer.

“Liverpool have never had any concerns about Jones’ condition or his professionalism despite Inter’s return to the club, and growing interest elsewhere.

“Know that the club’s position has been complicated by Inter’s recent contact. If the right offer comes up, the sale will be allowed, but Inter will have to raise their price for Liverpool to join.

“The important thing is that Liverpool are comfortable with Jones staying, and if that happens, and he impresses Andoni Iraola, they may decide to enter negotiations on a new contract.”

Why Liverpool are ready to keep Curtis Jones despite transfer interest

Despite growing interest from Inter Milan and other clubs, Liverpool continue to view Jones as an important member of their squad.

The Reds have never had any concerns about the midfielder’s attitude, professionalism or commitment, and the academy graduate remains highly regarded at the club.

So Liverpool are under no pressure to go in. Instead, it is willing to keep Jones until the end of his contract if their valuation is not met.

There is still a way to a long-term future at Anfield. If Jones can impress new manager Andoni Iraola in pre-season and throughout the upcoming campaign, Liverpool could reopen talks over a new contract extension.

For now, though, Liverpool’s message is clear: Inter Milan must significantly improve their offer if they stand any chance of signing Curtis Jones this summer.

Curtis Jones stats for Liverpool

While Inter Milan may believe they can reach a cut-price deal, Liverpool’s valuation reflects Jones’ growing importance to the club and his consistent contribution in recent seasons.

The midfielder has made 228 appearances for the Reds so far since leaving the club’s academy, contributing 22 goals and 25 assists while operating in various midfield positions.

His ability to play as a No.8, a deep-lying midfielder or a full-back has made him a valuable choice for successive managers.

Last season, Jones was a regular feature in most competitions, logging important minutes despite fierce competition for Liverpool’s midfield positions. His ball retention, pressing intensity and tactical flexibility earned him the praise of the coaches behind the scenes and helped establish him as a reliable member of the team.

At 25, Jones is also entering what is often considered the prime age of a midfielder’s career.

Liverpool therefore see little incentive to sell for €25 million, especially in a market where proven Premier League midfielders command a very high fee.
