Leeds are sending officials to personally assess the signing of the Champions League star

The 49ers have now sent Leeds United officials to assess Kevin Mac Allister, who has impressed for Union Saint-Gilloise this season.

Leeds make a personal inquiry into Mac Allister

Although the 1-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final was painful on Sunday, there is no denying that Leeds have exceeded expectations this season.

There was a stage when Daniel Farke’s career was in jeopardy, only for the German to unveil his back five and turn Leeds’ season around.

Now, with the Whites six points adrift of the relegation zone and preparing to play their final four games of the season, the Elland Road side have an opportunity to turn to the upcoming transfer window.

It is absolutely imperative that the 49ers get things right. The last thing they need is to be infected with severe second season syndrome.

As mentioned, several potential targets are already emerging. Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Santiago Bueno and Joao Gomes have both threatened to steal the headlines of late and it could be classic stories of clubs taking advantage of relegated clubs.

Leeds make move to sign Bielsa’s £40k-a-week Premier League star

The Whites have been linked with the signing of the “aggressive” player.

But they are not the only targets this summer. According to TeamTalk, the 49ers sent Leeds officials to personally check on Mac Allister before this summer.

The Union Saint-Gilloise defender is the older brother of Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister and has enjoyed an impressive season – even playing in the Champions League. The 28-year-old also did enough to earn his first international call-up at the end of last year, playing alongside his brother in Argentina.

Now, with Leeds joining the race to secure his signature alongside the rest of the Premier League, Mac Allister has a decision to make.

Mac Allister can be a partner of Struijk and Bijol

With their full-back now a permanent fixture, Leeds need more defenders this summer. They need a player like Mac Allister, whose weaknesses as a 5’8 defender will be covered along with Pascal Struijk and Jaka Bijol.

The numbers suggest that Mac Allister is the most aggressive of the three defenders. He will happily break out of the back three and meet the opposition, something Struijk and Bijol don’t do enough of.

Both backwards, that can be dangerous. A back three will allow Leeds to get on the front foot and that will be vital if they want to go beyond next season.

Not only are the club interested in Mac Allister, but their impressive first season back in the Premier League should help their case this summer. As for Mac Allister, he undoubtedly has a big decision to make.
