‘It’s time to say goodbye’

Bernardo Silva has confirmed that he will leave Manchester City when his contract expires this summer.
The 31-year-old has spent nine years under Pep Guardiola in the North of England, winning everything he was promised and becoming one of the club’s most successful players.
During his time in Manchester, the Portuguese international captained the club, and won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, Community Shield and Super Cup.
He will receive a farewell fee at the club in the final home game of the 2025-26 season, before looking at his options in the summer.
Silva’s message to City fans
Silva wrote a message to City fans, explaining his decision.
“Cities,
“When I arrived 9 years ago, I was following the dream of a young boy, wanting to succeed in life, wanting to achieve great things. This city and this club have given me more than that, much more than I expected. What we have won and achieved together is a legacy that will always be precious in my heart. The Centurions, the domestic quadruple, Treblen, Treblen’ and many more
“In a few months it’s time to say goodbye to the city where we didn’t win much as a football team, but where I started my marriage with my family.” From the bottom of my heart, Ines and Carlota, thank you!
“To the fans, your unconditional support over the years is something I will never forget. My main goal as a player was to flirt so that you guys feel proud and well represented on the field. I hope you feel that every game is one. I came as a Man City player, I leave as one of you, as a Man City fan for life. Keep supporting this young team and I’m sure it will bring you great memories in the future.
“To the team, Pep, the staff and all my colleagues for these 9 years, thank you for all the memories and letting me be a part of this journey for so long.
“I love you all, Bernardo”
The team honors the legend
City themselves have some names for Silva, published on their club website.
“Manchester City can confirm that Bernardo Silva will leave the club this summer.
“The Portuguese player joined City in 2017 and has played 451 games during his nine-year stay with the Blues.
“The 31-year-old’s role in our greatest period of success is immeasurable.
“To date, he has won 19 major trophies, including six Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League, two FA Cup victories, five Carabao Cup successes, three Community Shields, a FIFA Club World Cup and a UEFA Super Cup winner’s medal, and Bernardo is finally the club captain who wins the Arsenal Carabao Cup in 2026.
“On the side of that amazing cup performance, the number of 76 goals and 77 assists also shows Bernardo’s great contribution to the whole team in the work of the City.
“He has just become the 10th player to have played for City, surpassing a number of other great former players, including David Silva, Paul Power and Willie Donachie.
“Bernardo will now focus on trying to ensure that his remaining time at City ends with more silverware, with Pep Guardiola’s side still determined to win the Premier League title and the FA Cup.
“In short, he will be rightly remembered as one of City’s best and most famous players ever.”
