Fabrizio Romano shared Ricardo Calafiori’s update involving Real Madrid

Arsenal’s summer transfer window continues on multiple fronts as the Premier League champions look to strengthen an already strong squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
One of the most interesting developments this week involved Leicester City youngster Jeremy Monga.
Multiple reports, including the likes of talkSPORT, have revealed that Arsenal are among the clubs pushing for the highly-rated youngster’s signature following his emergence.
Mikel Arteta’s side have long prioritized young, selected talent, and Monga fits that profile as the club continue to plan for the present and the future.
At the same time, Arsenal remain heavily linked with a number of attacking targets.

The Toffees are cool with it.
Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers continues to dominate transfer speculation after reports suggested he could open up a move to north London.
Atlético Madrid striker Julian Alvarez has also remained on Arsenal’s radar, despite stiff competition and reports of talks with Barcelona.
Those links underline Arsenal’s determination to improve their attacking tactics despite winning the league title last season.
However, while attention is focused on potential arrivals, a new report suggests that one of Arsenal’s key defenders has once again attracted interest from one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Real Madrid have held talks with the camp of Arsenal star Ricardo Calafiori
According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid have been in contact with people close to Riccardo Calafiori as they evaluate potential targets.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano explained that they are fans of the Italian, but the deal is not straightforward.
“On the other hand, for Calafiori, what I can reveal to you is that there has been contact with people close to Calafiori in the last few weeks, Real Madrid is asking for details about this Italian defender.
“He is still a very important player for Arsenal. So, he is not an easy person at all. And for Arsenal, Calafiori is an important part of the project.
“So, let’s see what happens there. But Real Madrid want that kind of player.”
While Romano stopped short of suggesting that any formal talks had taken place, inquiries of fact reportedly made with close associates of Calafiori show that the Spanish giants have a strong interest in the Italian national.
From Arsenal’s point of view, the situation seems straightforward.
Calafiori remains a big part of Arteta’s plans and is regarded as one of the cornerstones of the club’s defence.
Since arriving in north London, the versatile defender has established himself as a very useful member of the team thanks to his ability to play in the center and at left back.
His technical level, modesty in his management and tactical flexibility made him a perfect fit for Arteta’s system.
Arsenal are under no pressure to sell and will be reluctant to weaken a defense that played a key role in last season’s title success. Calafiori is also entering what many would consider the prime years of his career, making him the type of player a club wants to build around rather than make money.
Still, Real Madrid’s admiration is understandable.
The European giants are known to be scouting defensive additions, and Calafiori’s profile fits many of the attributes they are believed to be looking for. At 24 years of age, he combines great experience with significant room for improvement.
At the moment, there is no indication that Arsenal are entertaining the idea of selling.
