Detroit Looks For More Dylan Larkin Assets

Can the Red Wings work out a three-way deal in the Dylan Larkin trade?

Jim Biringer of NHLRumors.com and Full Press Media joined TSN Radio in Montreal on Monday and were asked about the situation with Dylan Larkin and the Detroit Red Wings. How many assets is GM Steve Yzerman looking to get for his senior center?

NHL Rumors: The Vancouver Canucks are still looking to change their roster

Writing for NHLRumors.com

Host: “Jim, we saw what Quinn Hughes went through, we saw what Brady Tkachuk did. Now they’re not all the same, but if we look at Dylan Larkin, if you’re Steve Yzerman, I think Dylan Larkin, just to be very normal, by taking, don’t bring contracts to this or anything. I don’t think he’s as good as Quinn Hughes, where is the truth that Steve Yzerman should expect from this player?

Jim Biringer: “Well, you’re probably going to get a few assets for this player. And I think I’m looking, and when this first trade request came out, I pointed to Matt Duchene’s situation years ago in Colorado, where Joe Sakic was the general manager, he’s back as the general manager now, but he waited because he wanted roster players. He wanted three players, like players with Duche. what Steve Yzerman wants.

He needs to, he can’t turn the Detroit Red Wings into another rebuild, because if he finds the future and just picks the draft, then there will be an exit from Detroit. What does that mean for Alex DeBrincat? What does that mean? I mean, Patrick Kane is a UFA, but there was a sense that he would come back. Then they’ll just turn it over to (Lucas) Raymond and (Mo) Seider.

They need to compete like the Ottawa Senators need to compete on that side of the Atlantic. So three, four things – a player who can help them now, a player in the future who can definitely help them and a couple of draft picks, and one of them has to be a first-round draft pick. That’s why I won’t be shocked if Dylan Larkin is sold to one of the teams he wants to go to.

NHL Rumors: What’s next for the Buffalo Sabres?

Well, maybe it won’t be Florida now, but if you say you’re going to Minnesota. Is Minnesota trying to put together another team to meet Detroit’s needs? I think Brady Tkachuk is a great player, but I agree with you, Simon, that Dylan Larkin is a better player, and I think if he gets three first round draft picks, Larkin should get at least two. And one of the prospects should be worth a first-round draft pick if I’m Steve Yzerman. Because they have to play the playoffs soon, because they will enter the Buffalo Sabres’ area.”

NHLRumors.com Note: This should be true for Steve Yzerman and the Red Wings. There is a sense, and perhaps even more of an expectation, that this deal could be done over the weekend. However, it will take work. Whether it’s the Minnesota Wild, Dallas Stars, Vegas Golden Knights or another team. It sounds like the Red Wings, in need of registered players back, will need to find a third team involved. It makes sense that most top teams don’t have the assets needed to complete a trade.
