Crystal Palace are now planning a surprise move for the £43m Brazilian star

Crystal Palace are now looking to make a move for Joao Gomes, the midfielder has been tipped to leave Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer.

Palace are looking for a new midfielder with the futures of Kamada and Wharton uncertain

It remains unclear whether Palace will need to replace Adam Wharton in the next window, with David Ornstein suggesting that there may be no club willing to shell out the huge asking price.

The reporter said: “We are aware of Wharton’s widespread esteem, but Palace will want a very high price for him, and it will be interesting to see if anyone is willing to pay it. For example, clubs like United could see him as an option to sign a second midfielder – not a first, which would be (Elliot) Anderson or someone else – so he might not want to approach Palace.”

However, it looks like midfield reinforcements will be needed, with Daichi Kamada set to leave the Eagles at the end of the season, following manager Oliver Glasner out the exit door.

Talks have opened over a deal for Rangers midfielder Bailey Rice, but the youngster is only 19-years-old, and may need to strengthen with more information.

According to a report from Caught Offside, Crystal Palace are now plotting a surprise move for Wolves star Gomes, who is certain to leave the Old Gold in the summer transfer window, following his club’s relegation from the Premier League.

Rob Edwards’ side are expected to fork out around €50m (£43m), amid widespread interest in the Brazilian, with Liverpool, Manchester United and Atletico Madrid also named as potential suitors.

The Eagles are hoping the promise of regular playing time will give them a boost in the race to sign the 25-year-old, who could also be very interesting, as he has been hailed as “good” by The Athletic’s Jack Lang.

The Rio de Janeiro-born player usually plays in a defensive role, and has been a key player for Wolves since his arrival from Flamengo, scoring eight goals and providing six assists in 129 appearances.

Palace are preparing for the Europa Conference League final

Expected to finish mid-table in the Premier League, Palace are keenly watched in the Europa Conference League, and they booked their place in the final with a 5-2 aggregate victory over Shakhtar Donetsk.

Afterwards the Palace manager was full of praise for the way his team played.

“It was electric,” Glasner said. “Great atmosphere. Great night at Selhurst. And it was a good result and a great achievement, big congratulations and credit to the players.

“The commitment today, the effort, the composure was good, and I always believed that we would create chances and score goals.

“In the end we were all rewarded with Ismaila Sarr scoring a goal. Great performance, and an amazing night in Europe.”

La Liga outfit Rayo Vallecano awaits in the final, which will be held in Leipzig on May 27.
