Donald Trump’s influence has made the World Cup controversial
The snub comes after deep frustration surrounding political interference throughout the tournament.
Donald Trump’s massive political influence has cast a long shadow over the event, ensuring that political discord takes center stage.
Critics pointed to the highly controversial treatment of Iran’s national team in North America, which many felt violated the tournament’s neutral spirit.
They were initially denied visas and later were only allowed to enter the country on the day of the match and were forced to leave the country immediately after the match, along with the Mexican camp.
Further outrage erupted when FIFA made an unprecedented decision to overturn Folarin Balogun’s red card suspension after a direct phone call from Donald Trump, just days before their crucial snowball game against Belgium.
The decision sparked widespread accusations of favoritism by participating nations and political pressure forcing the hand of the governing body.

The Manchester City icon wanted to ensure that the limelight stayed with the players and the trophy lifting rather than being shared with political elites.
Despite the requests, Trump ended up staying inside the main stage.
