Next year’s Winter Classic will be held in Utah

Nicholas J. Cotsonika of NHL.com: The NHL announced that the Utah Mammoth will host the Colorado Avalanche on New Year’s Eve at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City in the 2027 Winter Classic.

“It will be in the afternoon, early morning, an important time in Mpumalanga,” said Bettman. “Some of them are going to be under lights, and we think it’s going to be really cool.”

Mammoth owner Ryan Smith said they plan to make it a weekend event.

“We have a lot planned,” said Smith. “Given the timing of the game, we’re going to put that together as a very special concert, obviously at the Delta Center that night, so people can come and celebrate the New Year with us with the football drop and everything else, which I think is going to be fun. …

Our hope is that this is the whole weekend, that this is kind of like the All-Star Game where we go in and we can organize and make our situation work and show our situation, so people can come in, skate, do everything, all weekend.”
