Celtic will make a £7m bid to sign the World Cup star

Celtic officially confirmed their first signing of the transfer window earlier this week with the arrival of Colombian striker Camilo Duran on a permanent deal.

The Hoops paid £6m to sign the 24-year-old from Qarabag, the most they have spent on a striker since they signed Adam Idah from Norwich City for £9.5m in the summer of 2024.

Idah did not start during his time at Parkhead, unfortunately, as he scored 13 goals in the Scottish Premiership in his only full season with the club.

The Irishman was then sold to Championship side Swansea for £6m in the summer of 2025, as they snapped him up after just 12 months.

Now, Duran must ensure that he doesn’t go down the same path as the former Norwich man, and that, instead, he can nail down a place in the starting line-up on a regular basis.

Duran scored five goals in ten games for Qarabag in the first European Cup competition of the 2025/26 campaign, scoring against Newcastle United, Eintracht Frankfurt, Ajax and Benfica.

While proponents may question the qualitative difference between the The Azerbaijan Premier League and Premiership, the centre-forward has shown that he can score goals against the big European teams from the continent’s top leagues.

In fact, he ranked among the best strikers in the competition last season as a goalscorer, and his physical credentials also suggest he has the ability to cope with the rigors of Scottish football.

The reporter claims that the Hoops have already had a £3.4m offer rejected by the Spanish club, and are now keen to step up their bid in an attempt to reach an agreement to sign the winger.

He added that clubs in Saudi Arabia and Turkey are also looking for the Egyptian player, which means that the Scottish giants may have to move quickly if they want to avoid missing out on a deal.

The right-back is coming off the back of a couple of impressive performances for his country at the World Cup, creating a ‘big chance’ and registering one assist in 126 minutes of action.

Hassan showed his quality during Egypt’s 3-2 defeat against Argentina by completing four goals and providing one assist on the right side, showing that he can stand up to high-quality opponents.

The 24-year-old talent also showed his creative quality in LaLiga for newly promoted Real Oviedo in the 2025/26 campaign, producing 3.22 xA and providing three assists in 20 starts in the Spanish top flight.

While that may not sound incredible in comparison, producing that much in one of Europe’s biggest leagues for a team that finished bottom of the division suggests that he could be more productive for a dominant Celtic side outside of the big leagues.

Therefore, Hassan could have the creative quality, based on his club and international form, to help Duran revive his goalscoring streak at Parkhead next season, should he join O’Neill’s squad.
