Celtic are now in talks to break their record transfer fee and sign the former Real Madrid gem

Celtic can now spend money to land a star striker and start their summer spending under Martin O’Neill.

With Rangers and Hearts set to undergo managerial changes, now is the perfect time for the Bhoys to strengthen. They missed out on their title last season, but Wilfried Nancy’s spell combined with poor recruitment threatened to hand Hearts a long overdue history. There will be no repeat this summer.

Better than Engels: Celtic to sign 18-cap World Cup star

Celtic is reported to be interested in signing the star who has already played in the World Cup this month.

Those at Celtic Park have the chance to break free from the chasing pack and recent transfer rumors suggest they could use the transfer market to do just that.

To that end, names like Elias Filet threaten to steal the biggest headlines. The 24-year-old scored 22 goals in the Swiss second division last season and could be the solution to Celtic’s attacking problem.

That doesn’t mean he’s the only name on the Hoops list. They are also looking at Taïryk Arconte from French second team Rodez, and the former Real Madrid player, who would be a great addition.

As reported by TuttoMercatoWeb reporter Pietro Celeste and relayed by Sport Witness, Celtic are now in talks to sign Alvaro Rodriguez from La Liga side Elche.

The former Real Madrid man enjoyed a strong campaign last season, scoring seven goals and creating five more in all competitions to get on the radars of Celtic and Bournemouth.

Alas, as impressive as that goal involvement is, it seems they have inflated his price. Reports have suggested that Elche are ready to demand around €20m (£17m) to sell their striker, meaning Celtic will have to break their current transfer record to secure a deal this summer.

It would be a statement coming from the Bhoys, especially after the doubt in the market nearly cost them last season. At a time when there is so much uncertainty in Scottish football, the champions must make the most of it.
