West Ham wanted to appoint an “unbelievable” manager with Sullivan unsure about Nuno
West Ham United have considered a move for their “unbelievable” manager this week, with David Sullivan not confirmed by Nuno despite the Portuguese now staying at the London Stadium.
Nuno is determined to stay at West Ham despite the defeat
Nuno could not prevent his team from being returned to the Championship, despite a 3-0 home win against Leeds United on the final day, but the club confirmed that he will remain in charge next season.
The statement read as follows: “Football performance must be our first priority and planning for next season begins as soon as the final whistle blows on Sunday. We held meetings with Head Coach Nuno Espírito Santo earlier this week and we are pleased to confirm that he has expressed his continued commitment to the Club – as he deserves.
“Nuno has made it clear that he is very motivated by the challenge of guiding West Ham United back to the top flight at the first time of asking. That must be an unquestionable goal for next season. Nuno has spent the last one year in the EFL Championship and it has been an outstanding success as he scored 99 points to win the title with Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2018.”
The former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager has maintained a good record since taking over from Graham Potter in September, finishing with 39 points, the most by any side to be relegated from the Premier League since Blackpool and Birmingham City were relegated in the 2010-11 season.

David Kretinsky wanted the Portuguese to stay, with the co-owner hoping he could lead the Hammers back to the Premier League at the first attempt, while Sullivan had his doubts.
West Ham are eyeing an “unbelievable” move to replace Nuno
According to a report from Football Insider, West Ham are looking to replace the manager of RC Strasbourg, Gary O’Neil, who was considered a strong option, as he has experience in England, managing Wolves and AFC Bournemouth.
O’Neil, who prefers to use a 4-2-3-1, was only appointed manager of Strasbourg back in January, leading the French side to an eighth-place finish in Ligue 1.
Scott Parker has also been identified as an option, as the three-time Championship winner has been out of action since leaving Burnley last month.
Parker has been less successful when it comes to keeping teams in the top flight however, with the Clarets enduring a difficult season, finishing in 19th place, after collecting just 22 points, and was relegated by Fulham and AFC Bournemouth.
O’Neil, on the other hand, has no experience of managing in the second tier, but was hailed as an “unbelievable” coach by Matt Doherty during his time in charge of Wolves.

Therefore, Nuno, who led Wolves in promotion in 2018, may be the best option.
