Aston Villa launch move to sign £26m striker Emery is free to leave

Aston Villa have now made contact to sign Matias Soule, with Unai Emery himself a fan of the AS Roma attacker ahead of the summer transfer window.

Aston Villa transfer news: Matias Soule talks begin

It is not easy for Aston Villa to organize their summer transfer window. Everything can change for better or worse. If they work with the idea that Champions League football will be theirs to enjoy next season, then the big money goals could go awry. However, the flip side to that is risk.

If Emery’s side fail to win the Europa League final, which they reached in style over Nottingham Forest on Thursday, or finish in the top five of the Premier League, PSR’s problems could resurface.

The Villans would very much like to work with a glass-full mentality, as one end of that means the sale of a star like Morgan Rogers.

One player who could come because of Champions League football is Emery’s favourite. According to Italy’s Giallorossi, Aston Villa have made contacts to sign Soule from AS Roma.

The attacking star is free to leave the Italian club if they want boys to match his €30m (£26m) price tag this summer and the fact that Emery is a fan could go a long way in tempting Aston Villa to pay that fee.

Although the striker is free to leave Roma, it is not because of form. Soule has netted 11 goals in 30 league appearances so far this season and is starting to prove his talent to many – including Jacek Kulig. The scout called the 23-year-old “the best” in 2023 and now he can watch him arrive in the Premier League.

Emery admits Aston Villa “still need” the Premier League

For some close to Villa Park, the pressure may be off. The Europa League final represents the perfect route to Champions League qualification and Emery is the man for the job in this regard. The Spaniard himself, however, was the first to admit that Aston Villa “still need” Premier League form despite arriving in Istanbul on Thursday.

“We still have a final to play. We can win and lose in the final and if we lose we have gained nothing. We need the Premier League. We need to try and focus on the game on Sunday to get the Champions League places and hopefully we can get it in the Premier League and go to the final.”

The manager, who is looking to win the Europa League for the fourth time in his career, was also full of praise for his team – telling the media: “Today we tried to prepare better, to push with the players and we did it. We focused on what was needed to improve and the players responded in a good way. The way we won the game was because of the plan we had.

“They were very focused. It was the only game we played in this situation, the semi-finals, which we did two years ago in the Conference League but we played the second leg away. Now we feel happy and proud.”
