Aston Villa are in the race to sign the £51m-rated African star

Aston Villa are in the race to sign Sporting Club’s Geny Catamo this summer, with several options available for the striker.
Aston Villa are keen to sign Catamo
The Villans are looking to make the most of their Champions League qualification after reaching the Europa League final by beating Nottingham Forest. Although rumors persist that this season could be Morgan Rogers’ last in a Villa shirt, those in the Midlands are trying to turn the story in their favour.
It looks like there will be a lot of focus on attacking the stars with or without Rogers, too. Villa are reportedly eyeing the likes of Matias Soule, who is on the verge of an exit from AS Roma, and are in the race for another exciting centre-back.
According to Portugal’s O Jogo, Aston Villa have joined the race to sign Catamo from Sporting Club, who have received several approaches regarding their star player ahead of the summer transfer window.
Whether the Villans were among the clubs to make contact is not yet known, but they are interested and it is clear why.

Catamo has enjoyed another impressive campaign, with 13 goals for his club and five in Mozambique’s AFCON, and has a €60m (£51m) release clause in his current contract.
It won’t be a cheap deal by any means, but a release clause option would bypass any potentially difficult negotiations with Sporting, saving Villa from a summer saga.
With Donyell Malen heading to Rome on a permanent deal this summer, it’s also a deal that would make perfect sense. The Villans have been desperate for a wide outing since the Dutchman’s departure.
£51m Catamo could replace Rogers
As much as Aston Villa may try to ignore it, the truth is that rumors are swirling around Rogers’ future. The attacking star looks set to leave big money, forcing the Villans to find a potential replacement for Catamo this summer.

With just over 1,000 minutes, Catamo has recorded just six more goal involvements than Rogers this season, all while showing significant versatility at fullback and on the wing.
On paper, he ticks too many boxes for Aston Villa to ignore. With competition from Fiorentina, Fulham, Napoli and Atalanta, those at Villa Park will have to move quickly when the transfer window opens this summer.
Catamo, especially with Rogers heading for the exit door, should be a target Aston Villa look to sign in the coming months.
